Have any of you read (or visited) the Japanese host clubs, where sexy, young, teenage, Japanese boys (and young men) charm female customers in "exclusive clubs wherein younger women pay larges amounts of money ($2,000-10,000 a night) to spend time with handsome, youthful, and entertaining young men. For the most part, the women are paying for attention, but sex is also involved. The men at these clubs seem youthfully resilient, yet tired and disillusioned. The men are very aware of the powers at play in what they do. They say forthrightly that they sell dreams and happiness in the form of romantic attention. The best liked and asked for of these men make $50,000 a month for their services."
What do you all think?
This is the ultimate male fantasy, isn't it?
I would love to visit one of these places. I am dying from curiosity!
Check out the documentary "Great Happiness Space".
Most of the girls who frequent these places are 'fuzoku' or prostitutes.
$50K is probably only the top guys. For most guys it's a tough job and not glamorous at all. MOst of them have to drink like 5 bottles of champagne a night and often get sick from too much drinking.
Actually, the way they keep the girls coming back is by witholding sex. They do lavish the girls with attention and make promises of being their boyfriends though.
Their look is very feminine, and would probably not considered attractive by Western women
It sounds just like the Karaoke Clubs throughout Asia. I've been to these clubs at least 50 times and never sang a note. When you arrive at the club you are given your choice of "hostess". The hostess caters to your every "non-sexual" need; feeding you, pouring your drink, cheering you on if you chose to sing, etc...their attention is included in the cost of the club but a tip is expected (very small by US standards).
Some girls can be "bought out"...that is they can be brought back to your hotel at the end of the night for sex but generally they are just meant to lavish attention on the gentlemen an make sure they have a good time. The hostesses make very good money, but the down-side being they spend many long hours drinking hard liquor, often to excess, and work up to 4 weeks straight without a day off.
This sounds identical...so I guess turnabout is fair play?
Personally the expense is always business related so nothing comes from my pocket, cost aside, spending a few hours with a beautiful woman lavishing attention on me isn't half bad!!! I would imagine that a woman would react the same way?
but given the much stricter laws on not only prostitution but also touching between a patron and worker in any adult establishment (think strip clubs), these Stateside hostess clubs haven't been all that successful.
Personally, I would love to start an organization that is a cross between a hostess club (but significantly less "fake") and an educational institution, where men who struggle in their interactions with women could go to to learn, practice, and lay some real self esteem foundations.
One college I attended made ballroom dancing, etiquette and advanced etiquette classes mandatory.
At the time, it was pretty much an all-male college. Women from all-female colleges would come to be our dance partners.
Meanwhile, that college had two formal balls a year which you were absolutely required to attend and "drag to" -- meaning bring a date. If you didn't, you marched in the quadrangle for 20 hours.
In order to make sure we had opportunity to find dates for these balls, several "mixers" were held annually. Women from all-female schools as well as women from other nearby colleges came, just to have to opportunity to be asked to one of the formal balls. So the deck was stacked in our favor.
In addition, we were also required to sign up as escorts (not the TER kind, lol) for débutante balls. So a couple of times a year, each male student wound up going to NYC to a big shindig to escort a young lady.
It didn't take long to build confidence. Either you achieved it, or spent an awful lot of quality time marching in rectangles with your rifle.
BTW, I once went to a "hostess dance" in LA. Just out of curiosity. It was ... interesting.
I think your idea, almost as a finishing school for men, is a better concept.
