At a technical meeting today, a guy referred to a "blowing agent".  But I kept a straight face.

Let's hear about some of the phrases you've all heard in your day-to-day lives that had you chuckling inside....

Back when I used to see "Full Service" signs in gas stations I would get a woody!

Wamnet, a company that provides network services to the graphics and pre-press industry, used to have a purple rack-mounted box that contained a Unix server and a router in one case.  It was called a Network Access Device, or NAD.

Needless to say, it was very hard to hear the term "Purple NADs" used frequently throughout the day in many, many serious meetings with customer execs.

whose name is 'Blue Ball, PA'.  A few miles away is 'Intercourse, PA'.  I kid you not!

The amazing thing is, both of these towns are in Lancaster County, which is the heart of 'Pennsylvania Dutch' country.  Those Amish farmers must be getting away with more than we realize...  :)

Cheers!

While traveling through Intercourse PA, take precautions.  You might end up in a nearby town called Blue Ball.  Unless of course you take the unltimate precaution and stop in Bird in Hand.

10 things in the office that sound dirty but aren't, for example.

My company had an annual conference during the spring in Florida.  One of the women who planned the whole thing had individual packets of sunblock made up as hand-outs.  The packets were foil, and were about 1.5 inches square.  The woman doing the planning is extremely straight-laced and pleasantly naieve, so the similarity between her hand-out and condoms never struck her.  At our executive kick-off nmeeting on the eve of the conference, I held up one of the packets, thanked the lady who had them made, and suggested a new tag line for our company, "[company name]; no matter what size your problem...we've got it covered."

I haven't been there in many years, but they stuck a little sign on a long toothpick in the top of their baked potatoes when they served them.  It read:

There is no need to act discreetly
I've been tubbed, I've been scrubbed
    So please eat me completely
