Was in Palm Springs and got several phone calls from friends and family about our fires at home. My business partner left the convention immediately (in my car) to drive home and get some belongings out of my house for me and check on my animals. A neighbor had confirmed with me on the phone that he would get my dog in case they evacuated.
The news in Palm Springs mainly only covered the LA and Riverside County fires so was keeping in contact with friends in SD as to the situation at home.
I made an announcement at the Convention as to the severity of it, and many left soon after, though it took them 6-8 hours to get home (instead of 2), so I'm glad I stayed in Palm Springs.
None of our group lost their homes, but a number of them had friends and family members who did.
The fire was frightfully close to my house, and now that I'm home, I can see just how close and feel so amazingly blessed and Protected, that it 'passed over'.
I was warned to buy respirators before leaving Palm Springs as the air is so thick it's hard to breathe, and the sky is this eerie yellow gray and so dark you need the lights on inside in order to see. Reminds me of a Mad Max movie.
We are truly surrounded by fires. I'm not even going to unpack my bags from my trip because it's not certain that we're yet safe and want to be ready at a moment's notice to leave.
