Does not open up until June 1st. I just got this email from my brother that told me of a virus that is going around which is not detected on any of the anti virus software. I never open any emails that I don't know who it is from, but I did a check, and there it was. I am attaching his email so that you can do a search on your computer and delete it before it is too late. Supposedly it is devastating and can wipe out your hard drive files. When are these loosers who create these things going to grow up and get a life? Anyways, I hope this helps in case you caught it from me or anyone else out there who doesn't realize they have it.Be safe.Love Monet.PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS MESSAGE BEFORE 1 JUNE 2001> >> > I've got Anti-virus software and it did not pick it up!> >> > Please read the following carefully.> >> > URGENT. Interesting.  I just got my computer back from Sony 3 days ago after having the hard drive replaced.  I just checked for the virus and sure enough, there it was.  Thanks Monet.  Sedagive.

I just hope no one emailed all of their contacts concerning this "virus".--modified by Nocturne at Wed, May 30, 2001, 21:15:01

Hi Monet,Thank you for your post. I just cheked my c drive and it was there.LuvLiz

I found the damn thing too!  Catastrophe avoided because of your warning.  Thanks a bunch!  Now on to my email address book to warn others.

This virus varning is a hoax, the file is a regular system file, you should all have it. From the Symantec site:This particular email message is a hoax. The file that is mentioned in the hoax, however, Sulfnbk.exe, is a Microsoft Windows utility that is used to restore long file names, and like any .exe file, it can be infected by a virus that targets .exe files.See www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/sulfnbk.exe.warning.html

This is a hoax, do not delete that file, unless your viruse detector says the file has a virus.Everyone who has windows 98 has that file, it enables you to restore long file names. If you have deleted go to the win98 site and d/l the file back into your system. While we are on this subject, most people assume that the only attachments to worry about have the file extension .exe  not so anymore, they can change the extension so when you check out an attachment, it could be a virus and an executable file, but the extension will not indicate that. Here is a CnP to one hoax site that tells you about this..lots of legit hoax sites on the net.  Sorry its a long CnP, but to get right to the one that Monet thought was a virus takes all of this:When Hoaxes Harm  http://search.aol.com/redirect.adp?appname=QBP&query=%99%ea%43%d6%bf%f9%ab%89%f8%8a%f9%8f%02%b2%5e%99%fc%40%42%18%51%4a%de%60%94%09%a9%2d%16%20%97%5e%de%63%92%3d%a2%bf%60%01%39%bb%64%db%91%14%57%69%2f%15%cc%cd%80%80%31%81%d6%a7%ed%13%5f%c4%da%46%67%48%21%39%8c%79%fe%b6%5b%a1%63%b1%37%ef%9a%76%93%e2%f5%df%28%18%0a%fb%36%8b%e2%67%c1%d1%2d%c3%b7%d3%26%88%16%7e%0e%6f%6e%10%7f%20%1f%ea%5d%3a%32%4f%22%1e%56%5e%93%40Always remember to update your virus scan proggie weekly, and check out a good hoax site before deleting any files that you are told are a virus, unless your virus scan come tells you it is a virus.

a quick check for that file name on yahoo gave the hoax away.  it's a well documented hoax.  sheesh.  should you check before you go deleting system files????????It's kinda like not knowing how to put gas in your car.Talk about YMMV.

I am so sorry guys. I am going to look up that link you sent and re email my friends, not to mention my brother who must have emailed his whole friggin department. What the hell??? So now we have to first check with Hoax Central to find out if our computer will be fucked up or not???? I'm sorry again. This will be the last virus related post by me.Love Monet xoxoxo

Monet,Don't feel too bad.  You're not the first to get caught by a hoax, and certainly not the last.As hoaxes go, this one was pretty mild.  Have you ever seen someone driving at night with their headlights off?  We all have.  About 10 years ago there was a hoax in southern cal. that said gang bangers were doing a new initiation thing.  They'd drive around at night with their headlights off, and shoot anyone who flashed their high-beams.  It was a hoax, but imagine the fear people felt when they saw that car with no lights.  And imagine how LE treated the poor sob that forgot to turn his lights on that night!ChuzTemp.
