Sorry for the capital letters I pasted this from an email.

Pretty interesting--I did not know this?

THIS MAY COME AS A SURPRISE TO THOSE OF YOU NOT LIVING IN LAS VEGAS, BUT THERE ARE MORE CHURCHES
THAN CASINOS. NOT SURPRISINGLY, SOME WORSHIPPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICES WILL GIVE CASINO CHIPS RATHER THAN CASH WHEN THE BASKET IS PASSED.

SINCE THEY GET CHIPS FROM MANY DIFFERENT CASINOS, THE CHURCHES HAVE DEVISED A METHOD TO COLLECT THE OFFERINGS. THE CHURCHES SEND ALL THEIR COLLECTED CHIPS TO A NEARBY FRANCISCAN MONASTERY FOR SORTING AND THEN THE CHIPS ARE TAKEN TO THE CASINOS OF ORIGIN AND CASHED IN.

THIS IS DONE BY CHIP MONKS!

OH, I AM SO SORRY, YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT COMING DID YOU?  LOL :-)

Father Simon, Father Theodore, and Father Alvin. Do you hear me? That's father ALVIN !!!

A few years ago I attended the priestly ordination (Episcopal, not Catholic) of a good friend of mine in Vegas.  A couple of days later I attended his church to here is first homily.  There I thought I was teasing with his rector by saying that I had thought hanging on to my last chip and put it in the collection.

Father Dave told me that this was nothing new.  In his younger days, it was his job to go around the casinos to cash in the chips let in the offering, and became well known by the staff and regulars of more than a few casinos.  While he refused to pray for the right roll of the dice or flip of the cards, he listened to there concerns, and prayed and cared for their real problems and solutions.  I may not be religious today, but this still sounds like a worthy service.
