The question of Names......

You know this may read like a frivolous post but I have been pondering this all morning.

So often when ladies get into this business they try and find a working name that fits their personality, some even use their "real" name. When I started 2 years ago I picked the nickname I had been given when I was very small by my Great Uncle who came to the states from Ireland when he was a little boy. I was always his Little Irish Lass. I am very proud of my Irish/Welsh heritage hence the Celtic in front of my name.

The other reason I picked the name was that it was different. I had not seen any other names that came close and I knew I had a winner. So often you see posts on the boards by providers and you really have to check the e-mail addy or website to see who you are dealing with. Multiple names are quite comman.

I just recently saw a post on another board by a woman posting as "Lass". She posted no e-mail addy or site addy. The thread was controversial and I received a couple of calls from people asking why I had taken the stand expressed in the post. I had to go look and make a clarification that it was not me. It was a bit disheartning.

Now I know some of you are saying I have no exclusive rights to this name. I have a copy righted site but I have no trademark to the name Lass. I have tried very hard in the last couple of years to build a reputation that stands on it's own merits and when the name Lass comes up I want people to either take the post for what it is..my own .02.

Ladies and gents, let me ask you this....how difficult has it been to pick or see a name on the boards that is the same as so many others? Ladies have you had troubles with other ladies working under the same name as your own. And gents, do you pass a lady or a post by based on the posting name or do you try and find out who is actually doing the writing? I know there are far greater issues in the world right now, this one just happens to be on my mind at the moment?

P.S. I only have a basic membership, so if you send me mail thru TER I cannot recieve it :(

Hi Lass,  This has nothing to do with your post, but I thought since you have some Irish blood, you could answer.  Isn't the word Celtic pronounced with a hard C, like keltic?  I always thought the pronunciation was wrong for the Boston Celtics (Seltics), or am I just way off?  Thanks.  Sedagive.

"The ancient Greek name for the Celts was "Keltoi", adapted from a word the Celts called themselves. In the different languages the comman letter was a C but pronounced as a hard K.

To the Romans who came later, The Celts were known as "Galli", the name they gave the Celts of Gaul, which is now France. Julius Caesar, who fought the Celts with his legions at Gaul, said they called themselves "Celtae", which is basically what they Celts had called themselves for thousands of years."

That was taken from the book "Who Were The Celts" writtten by Kevin Duffy.  It was a gift given to me by a friend for my birthday.

I know the question was simple but the answer never is...LOL. As for the Boston Celtics..I have no idea why the pronunciation is different. maybe it just flows better...LOL

I may be wrong, but since I figure that the majority of providers do not use their given names the name is not important to me. I will admit I have seen some clever monikers, "Luscious Laurel" is an example.  What can be confusing is when a single provider advertises using different names on different sites.

As far as the discussion boards go some providers post using different names than the ones they use professionally.  On the LA board of late "Beckisharp" has caused quite a stir.  Everyone was playing detective to determine her "true" identity.  I don't really care if a provider chooses to post under an alias.  Although I don't quite get it--other than for security reasons, is seems a waste of some free publicity.

All in all the name a provider uses doesn't have an effect on whether I'd call her, or read her posts.
