Suffragette City Lyrics
by David Bowie
Hey man, oh leave me alone you know
Hey man, oh Henry, get off the phone, I gotta
Hey man, I gotta straighten my face
This mellow thighed chick
Just put my spine out of place
Hey man, my schooldays insane
Hey man, my work's down the drain
Hey man, well she's a total blam-blam
She said she had to squeeze it but she... then she...
[CHORUS]
Oh don't lean on me man
Cause you can't afford the ticket
I'm back on Suffragette City
Oh don't lean on me man
Cause you ain't got time to check it
You know my Suffragette City
Is outta sight...she's all right
Hey man, Henry, don't be unkind, go away
Hey man, I can't take you this time, no way
Hey man, droogie don't crash here
There's only room for one and here she comes
Here she comes
[CHORUS]
A Suffragette City, a Suffragette City
I'm back on Suffragette City [x2]
Suffragette City
Ohhh, Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am!
Suffragette City [ad lib]

but The Seven Deadly Finns by Brian Eno as I recall was about seven Finnish hookers each of whom had a specialty.
Anyone have the lyrics to it? It was quite interesting.
I seem to recall the opening lines went:
"Those French girls with their strings of pearls think it's such a bloody shame...
That the local boys with their (something) toys always make those daisy chains..."
Oh, the French girls with their strings of pearls
Think it's such a burning shame
That the local boys with their country joys
Never make them daisy chains.
They're swapping disappointing incidents
While at the dock another ship pulls in
And suddenly the door breaks down (Hourah!)
It's the Seven Deadly Finns!
Oh soldiers and sailors
Have all been there before:
Gigolos and governments
Have tumbled through that door.
Because they need those French girls
With all their kiss-curls
And powder in their guns
And the Seven Finns with the deadly grins
Tend to measure beauty in tons!
The first is a freak with a masochistic streak
And the second is a kitten up a tree
The third is a flirt with an awful print skirt
And the fourth is pretending to be me
The fifth wears a mac and never turns his back
And the sixth never shows his eyes
But the Seventh Deadly Finn is so tall and slim,
He shouldanever been with those guys.
Although variety is the spice of life,
A steady rhythm is the source
Simplicity is the crucial thing
Systemically of course
(work it on out like Norbert Weiner)
So when those French Girls say to you
"Would you like your ashes raked?"
You'll have to take their word for it:
It's the only thing to take...
(Yodelling chorus)

God, I think this is the first time I've ever read the lyrics rather than tried to make them out from my bootlet copy that I've played down to a nubbin.
Dire Straits
"Your Latest Trick"
All the late night bargains have been struck
Between the satin beaus and their belles
And prehistoric garbage trucks
Have the city to themselves
Echoes roars dinosaurs
They're all doing the monster mash
And most of the taxis and the whores
Are only taking calls for cash
I don't know how it happened
It all took place so quick
But all I can do is hand it to you
And your latest trick
My door was standing open
Security was laid back and lax
But it was only my heart got broken
You must have had a pass key made out of wax
You played robbery with insolence
And I played the blues in twelve bars down Lover's Lane
And you never did have the inteligence to use
The twelve keys hanging off my chain
I don't know how it happened
It all took place so quick
But all I can do is hand it to you
And your latest trick
Now it's past last call for alcohol
Past recall has been here and gone
The landlord finally paid us all
The satin jazzmen have put away their horns
And we're standing outside of this wonderland
Looking so bereaved and so bereft
Like a Bowery bum when he finally understands
The bottle's empty and there's nothing left
I don't know how it happened
It was faster than the eye could flick
But not all I can do is hand it to you
And your latest trick
That one is a no brainer ....wink-wink nudge nudge Say no more...
...the old Beach Boys tune.
Some obvious ones come to mind. Roxanne by the Police - "You don't have to put on the red light" and Lady Marmalade - "Voulez-vous couchez avec moi, ce soir?" But I like Bad Girls by Donna Summer and The Fire Down Below by Bob Seger.
The Fire Down Below
Here comes old Rosie
She's looking mighty fine
Here comes hot Nancy
She's steppin' right on time
There go the street lights
Bringin' on the night
Here come the men
Faces hidden from the light
All through the shadows
They come and they go
With only one thing in common
They got the fire down below
Here comes the rich man
In his big long limousine
Here comes the poor man
All you got to have is green
Here comes the banker
And the lawyer and the cop
One thing for certain
It ain't never gonna stop
When it all gets too heavy
That's when they come and they go
With only one thing in common
They got the fire down below
It happens out in Vegas
Happens in Moline
On the blue blood streets of Boston
Up in Berkeley and out in Queens
And it went on yesterday
And it's going on tonight
Somewhere there's somebody
Ain't treatin' somebody right
And he's looking out for Rosie
And she's looking mighty fine
And he's walking the streets for Nancy
And he'll find her every time
When the street light flicker
Bringing on the night
Well, they'll be slipping into darkness
Slipping out of sight
All through the midnight
Watch 'em come and watch 'em go
With only one thing in common
They got the fire down below
Bad Girls
Toot toot hey beep beep
Bad girls
talking about the sad girls
sad girls
talking about the bad girls, yeah
See them out on the street at night, walkin'
picking up on all kinds of strangers
if the price is right you can score
if you're pocket's nice
but you want a good time
you ask yourself, who they are?
like everybody else, they come from near and far
Bad girls
talking about the sad girls
sad girls
talking about the bad girls, yeah
Friday night and the strip is hot
sun's gone down and they're about to trot
spirit's high and they look hot
do you wanna get down
now don't you ask yourself, who they are?
like everybody else, they wanna be a star
Sad girls, sad girls
you such a dirty bad girl
beep beep uh, uh
you bad girl, you sad girl
you such a dirty bad girl
beep beep uh, uh
Now you and me, we are both the same
but you call yourself by different names
now you mama won't like it when she finds out
her girl is out at night
Toot toot hey beep beep
Hey mister, have you got a dime?
mister, do you want to spend some time, oh yeah
I got what you want
you got what I need
I'll be your baby
come and spend it on me
hey mister
I'll spend some time with you
with you, you're fine, with you
bad girls
they're just bad girls
talkin' about sad girls
sad girls
hey, hey mister
got a dime?
Toot toot hey beep beep
Monty Python. Sorry, don't have the rest of the lyrics but when I find my Best of Python CD I'll write them out for you.
Sit On My Face
Sit on my face and tell me that you love me,
I'll sit on your face and tell you I love you, too.
I love to hear you oralise
When I'm between your thighs,
You blow me away.
Sit on my face and let my lips embrace you,
I'll sit on your face and then I'll love you truly.
Life can be fine if we both sixty-nine,
If we sit on our faces in all sorts of places and play
'Till we're blown away.
...enjoy!
There she stood in the street
Smiling from her head to her feet
I said hey what is this
Now maybe baby
Maybe shes in need of a kiss
I said hey what's your name
Maybe we can see things the same
Now don't you wait, oh, dont wait
Let's move before they raise the parking rate
Alright now, baby its alright now(x2)
I took her home to my place
Watching every mood on her face
She said look, what's your game
Are you trying to put me to shame
I said slow, don't go so fast
Don't you think that love can last
She said love? Lord above
Now you're trying to trick me in love
(chorus)
I took her home to my place
Watching every mood on her face
She said look what's your game
Are you trying to put me in shame
I said slow-- slow, don't go so fast
Don't you think that love can last
She said love? Lord above
Now you're tryin' to trick me in love
(chorus)
This has turned out to be one enjoyable and nostaligic thread.
I think I'll get me one of those MP3's after all and play it when ever I'm on my way to a date. (Which is often, but not often enough.) ![]()
"I Got a Woman" - John Mayer version
"Streetcorner Girl" - Led Zepplin
...called "Hey, Hey What Can I Do?" and it is most definitely among Zep's best.
Heaven Is by Def Leppard. I's about a hooker named Heaven and how good she can make you feel.
