............. think about this.
Last night I was texted by a beautiful lady that I have a 10:30am appointment with today. She was checking to see if I was still going to see her. I had made the appointment a couple of days ago. She texted me at 5:58pm and I answered "Yes please." at 6:04pm. Believing that I had answered, i went about the rest of my evening. This morning at 8:19am, she texts me " I wasn't sure. I'm free now till 10am then available the rest of the day after 11:30"Me 8:20am "I thought we were doing 10:30?"
Her " I'm so sorry, I didn't hear anything back last night, so i wasn't sure"
Me 8:32 "Is 11:30 ok?"
Me 8:59 " did you get this?"
Her 9:06 " You got it!" the point is that my answer at 6:04pm saying "yes please" wasn't received by her till 8:02am today!! That time is showing on my phone because I get that service. My phone showed the time I sent it and when it was received. I have verizon and never have these kind of problems. She has T-mobile, which in my experience has these kind of problems sporadically. The moral to the story is......... Before you believe that he or she went radio dark on you, think about the technology being faulty. Aaargh. Sure has thrown my day into a bit of a mess.
I understand that.
But, I get delivery confirmation on my text messages and it shows the message I sent last night at 6:04pm was received at 8:02am. It's not guessing, it is real.
I'll remember this the next time I'm in LV.
I switched to Verizon several years ago due to the coverage, etc.....in the past 3 weeks-post hurricane-my Verizon texts have often been delayed in sending and in receiving. Sometimes I have to send a text 5 or 6 times to see that it went thru. Sometimes there is a 2 to 4 hour delay in receipt of a text from the time it was sent.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue ? I am going to Verizon store this afternoon to see if there is something wrong with the phone.......but....I doubt that to be something they will acknowledge if that is the case....This is why I don’t really do any scheduling/confirmation via text- I usually handle via email. (I know it’s not issue-proof, but more reliable to me than via text)
I have had incidents where I called a cell number for someone I know and an entirely different person answered. Also, where someone is delayed in getting my text. If she’s using google voice or anything similar, it could also aggravate the issue more in terms of getting through your network, to google voice, and then through her network to her phone. The worst is when you thought you sent something but never pressed Send!! Or replied in your head but the thought never translated to real action. UghhhIt's when I start getting impatient wondering why someone hasn't returned my text after waiting "forever", looking down at my phone and realizing I have done just what you said, forgot to hit send. That makes me feel like a freaking genius. lol
I booked my sessions for Thursday and Saturday, and on the second one, 15 minutes went by and I had no response from a booker that always gets back to me in less than a minute. I'm thinking WTF, so I go to send a followup to tease her that she's slipping a little, and there is my message still where I typed it. I hit send and she responded within 30 seconds. I felt pretty dumb.
No. It works only if both people have an iPhone with iMessage.
Oh really? News to me. The person I replied to discussed having an iPhone and sending a text to an Android user. In my experience, for iPhone users using the native messaging app (iMessage) you don't get a confirmation when you text an android user because then the app is sending as an SMS text instead of an iMessage. Please share under what other circumstances it’s possible to get read receipts from simply sending an SMS a text without an app? I would actually find this rather useful.
Every app that I know of with read receipts requires both people to have the same 3rd party app on their phone (like WhatsApp, Verizon Messages app, Groupme, etc). The read receipt feature is not inherent in SMS technology to my knowledge. This is what you'd say if you ever read your posts (ask one of your "many tech guys" to tell you how to generate a meme...right after you ask someone what a "meme" is):
problems with providers not receiving text messages. Usually, I end up waiting for a bit. Funny how it only happens with providers though.
Hahahaha! I'm sorry CDL, you left that one hanging right over the plate.
That's hit right out of the park.
Well done Papa.
just as guilty.... Even worse, he's a TER post history historian.
...... after our amazing session.
It has happened in other areas of my life too. She has AT&T and told me she has had it happen to her also.
The purpose of my thread was to share that sometimes it's not the hook or the trick playing games.
You can make up anything else you want.
A few months ago I texted a lady. She gave me her hotel info, and I walked over there. She said to text her for the room number when I am in the lobby. When I got there, I did so, but then for some reason my SIM card went down. I am a complete Luddite, and I didn’t realize for well over half an hour that my phone was down. When I reinserted the SIM card, all her messages came back up. They were primarily ‘fuck off time waster’, but I did eventually get to show her my phone and the delayed time stamps.
Yes, mishaps can happen. Technology can get in the way, but don't be entirely dismissive that there is an opportunity to claim a tech fail for something else. Sometimes the ‘green’ is greener with someone else. The only other option for him is troll.
I'm pretty sure it only worked Android to Android although I could be mistaken. I used it several years ago when my ex used to claim he didn't get my messages (We both had the Galaxy S5 through Verizon at the time). Shut him up pretty fast when I sent him screenshots showing that he did indeed receive them. I seem to recall that it only told me they had been received, not read though.
