a no-brainer for a provider.  You pick the guy with the deepest pockets and tell him he has to book an overnight if he wants you for New Year's Eve.  Problem solved.

I hate big parties anyways, and to hell with going out in the cold.

In Raleigh (City of Oaks) we drop an acorn instead of a ball. They actually do it twice, one is at 7pm so families can take their kids down town and experience the fun without the drunken stupidity and then again at midnight for all the partiers. I will be there at 7pm with my little guy on my shoulders. Happy New Year everybody.

Only difference is we also bake about 3 or 4 different frozen hors'devouers (sp?)  As finger food while playing the game.  No dinner, just apps thru the night.  Right after the ball drops, the kids go to bed and we get nekkid for a quickie (at least) to ring in the new year.

Simple... at home... with the people who matter the most to me. Eating food, drinking wine, burning marshmallows in the fire pit we've got in the yard while lighting fire works... just chillin with zero worries (:
