On the news tonight in Virginia. They are proposing changing a state law making people tell every sexual partner if they are Hiv positive. If I understood correctly, it is as of now only a misdermeaner not to tell. Meaning you could be fine and possibly go to jail. If pass, it would become a felony and jail time would be certain(up to one year) when found guilty of having sexual relations without informing your partner.

Feeling anyone?

Granted what we do is on the fringe of what others, and the law, believe to be wrong, but to give someone an STD knowingly? C'mon. Of course that is wrong.

unless you are unaware of them (hard to figure, but I'll go with that loophole).

If you know about a condition, and you don't disclose it (condom or not), then you are putting a healthy person at risk.  Don't do it.  If making it a crime makes it happen, than I am all for it.

I believe that would be a good law, provided that you can prove that a person knew they had HIV when they had sexual relations. Back when Aids first became a big thing and people were dropping dead. I was all for taking out and shooting anyone who would go out and have sex with someone, if they knowing knew they had Aids. Back then it was a death sentence. I guess that it still is true today. With the drugs that they now have it seems that you can now survive for alot more years.

This isn't necessarily about knowingly giving someone an STD.  That's what condoms are for.  I am not saying the law would or wouldn't be a good idea.  Just that it's not as simple as that.

However, being HIV+ and having unprotected sex with someone should be a considered a crime as bad as murder.

The only problem with this kind of law is it will discourage some people from being tested.
