I think these are both valid concerns!  

The OP posts something that he thought might be of interest to the board and immediately everyone goes into attack mode. From his second post, I didn't take it as being about being about self-indulgence. Even if it were, why the BS. I've seen this on other boards where people get driven off by the this behavior.
