Charity Giving at Christmas Time

Hi all, I saw a post on the NYC board that I thought was a good idea. The gent wants tax deduction or something for giving to charity, and was hoping some girls would see him if he gives to their favorite charity. This seems to be a good idea for all. I think its an interesting idea during the holidays, if some girls were to offer this sort of thing. Imagine all the charities that would get a lovely christmas gift, if every provider offered at least one gent this option - of giving to a charity the price of his appointment. I guess he would email a copy of his charity receipt to the provider, prior to the appointment, confirming his gift to the charity. Usually when you make an online donation, you get an email confirmation sent to you. Not sure how it could work exactly, but it just would be a very loving deed to do for christmas. Give your local charity a wonderful gift of love.

it is extra special during the holidays when people need it the most. One of the best traditions I ever heard of was from an Attorney I worked for right out of undergrad...they would adopt or pick a family in a low rent area, buy them gifts, and actually set up an entire tree outside with the works on Christmas Eve for them. I usually like to give extra to St. Jude hospital. I love animals as well, but people (sadly) are more important when in need. I also like to find time to volunteer at various shelters vs. just sending them a check. You would be surprised at how many homeless people just want someone to talk to...someone to hear their story and take the TIME to show they care. I think our time is the most significant gift we can give, because it is something you can't ever get back.

And every provider has their preference for what to support. For me its wildlife, nature conservancy, animal rights... but if each of us supported the charity we believe in most, what an amazing difference we would make in the world! As many providers as there are out there, and as many hobbyists, if each gave something to charity... wow we might even change the world!

I think I'm going to help at a nursing home. I love singing old songs like Danny boy to the elderly. They sing along.

It is referenced that there is a direct correlation with animals making lonely people happy, so for those who can have pets...great idea. Small children also make the seniors happy, but not mine lol. We would get banned for life!

Me and my siblings have done this quite a bit.  We make a day out of it and went shopping....then out for cocktails.  Great excuse to get out together.  We have a blast and we've actually got to visit the people we have shopped for.  Nothing better than helping a family in need who genuinely appreciates it.  Get more out of that than any gift I ever got at Christmas.

On another board I used to frequent, we did a provider christmas event. We would select a provider who had children and was down on her luck to sponsor. Each person would donate 25 dollars and the money would be used to BUY toys vs. sending cash. It really made a difference, and we got to see photos to boot.

You are totally cool and possess a sense of giving much beyond the scope of this website. St. Jude is an incredible idea and has been since Danny Thomas founded it in Memphis almost 50 years ago - my favorite charity other than one-on-one street charity. And you're right, homeless folks sometimes just need to talk to someone every now and then. Xmas is an especially lonely time for those without and this is not some kind of appeal to the haters and cynics on this site, but you do strike a chord that does bring warmth to the heart. And yea I like giving back by volunteering or giving old clothes away to people who need them. I've done some volunteering talking to elderly or Alzheimer's patients and they really enjoy people who take time out of their lives just to talk to them. There's been studies showing that people who spend a greater percentage of like a bonus on someone else compared to others who keep it for themselves or for materialistic things are generally happier. It's nice to know people on here aren't so greedy, well at least during the holidays...I don't know how you guys normally are lol.

That is why I cringe every time I see a damn hobbyist bitching about a providers' price! There are HUNGRY children in the world without a father to feed them, and some want to sit here and gripe about the price of ass. Many men are working 3 jobs to feed their family, and could not afford to spend 20 bucks on a hooker to make "their" lives better.

I know right? I hate reading about guys complaining about a rate. It's like, then don't see her! I'm one of those people who have been spoiled since birth, yet always feel guilty whenever spending money on myself or receiving a nice gift I don't need lol.

I make various donations throughout the year.  Some are monetary, Some are new and used items, and sometimes it is just my time.  Any guess as to which always gets a personalized thank you.  While I am sure all is appreciated.  People, especially the less fortunate and elderly, really appreciate when someone chooses to spend time with them instead of doing something else.  

I applaud everyone who is donating time or money anytime and especially during the holidays.

on some people. Especially if they are barely making it month to month and can't afford to get a few things for their children. These parents don't care about what they get, only that the kids get something so they can still believe in the magic of the season.

Not only is giving great for the families that are on the receiving end, but it is awesome for us as well.

Without revealing too much, I am a handyman for a mission two or three days a month, they house women and children who have really been dealt a shitty hand. Seeing them makes me want to find their ex and demonstrate the penetrating power of a nail gun, but I resist that temptation and just install new toilets or whatever they need.
And they are ALWAYS appreciative and genuine.

Easily the most disturbing thing I've seen recently (when I went the first time). I wondered why the house had no mailbox- it was so that nutjobs couldn't locate them via address. Crazy and sad.
