I will say you will have trouble calling other google voice numbers with it. so if a provider is using it(like me) and you are too , may not be a good idea.
I have had people call me from those and it just hangs up on them for some reason, plus I won't see them.

google DOES share your info with whomever they want to like most email providers.
you need an email addy t set it up, your email addy has your IP and whatever else attached to it
using a proxy server to hide your source, someone could still find you if they really wanted to.

when it's forwarded to your cell it shows on your bill as the google voice number only. so all you would need to do is make sure to clear your call history on your phone.
also clear your text messages bc when someone leaves a voicemail it's texts it to you.

not really worth the hassle

The theard I have linked below is an exchange between Kam and I about Google Voice. Good information from Kam and myself.

Anyone thought to use Google Voice to stay anonymous instead of the prepaid phone.
Get a google voice #, forward it to your cell when contacting providers. When your date is complete, disable to forwarding feature and send all calls to the google voice number to voicemail. Google does not ask for your personal info when you sign up. I have not gone over their privacy terms/conditions to see if they keep records of what numbers you attach to their service.

Thoughts.........

Let me know if it is easy to set up.  Beats having to have a 2nd pre-paid cell.

All right if you want the call coming in on your regular cell. No good if your cell is at risk, call history, missed calls, numbers storage. SO find that and ask about Google Voice. Throw away cell is still probably the best, but who knows.

Nothing is safe and secure, worry free.

The thing you have to accept is this:
"Wives and their lawyers, they come and the go".

But one of the verification methods I use is a reverse phone lookup, and I'd probably assume you were either LE or a creep if nothing came up.... even prepaid phones require some info, and if your info didn't match  your ID, I'd split. What are you doing with providers that would call you back without express instructions to do so? Find a lady who values discretion.

You can set it up to just show that your google voice number is calling you. So if anyone calls in on that line, your google voice number shows up on your cells caller id and on your statement. You would then go into your google account to check the caller id and voicemail. Seems pretty legit as straight forward. Are most using the prepaid to avoid SO issues or as a way to not be traceable by LE? I am not worried

Doesn't reverse phone lookup just verify that it is a cellphone from a vague area of the state? When I do reverse lookups on numbers that call my business, I only get info if it is from a landbased number. Unfortunately, most people now call from cells way more than a land line.

I would think the prepaid most people use are setup without using any personal info. That is how I would set it up anyway. Just to be sure nobody knows about my hobby but me and the provider.
