Although this sounds more befitting of Batman, it is ascribed to superman. This superman is quite different from the "ubermensch" described by Nietzsche. In fact, instead of the Nietzsche view that the superman has overcome pity and tolerence of the weak, rather - the superman created by Siegel and Shuster - ya know - is very much the defender of the weak - and much saddened by much of the "human condition."
The tragedy in all of this is that the creators of superman, Siegel and Shuster, were taken advantage of by a poor understanding of the law surrounding copyright and intellectual property. One wonders if Superman would have helped them - or turned a blind eye to the injustice.
and folks wonder why I chose my name.... lol! it was at a time on TER when we had characters such as Lex Luethor, Jockeypants, Masked Avenger, and others.... just seemed like we needed a kind of bizzare antihero... as ours is an antihobby.... hee hee... kinda like the art collector who collects only artefacts that are illegal to posses. sort of ... well kinda like.
Behind any of the older TER member names. I did read some old posts by the gentlemen you mentioned and their reviews. One of those things inquisitive minds just got to do. ![]()
Two of the gentlemen seemed to be just that...
Gentlemen Is there something I am missing between the lines here. Now the Masked Avenger must be the bad guy in this story. His posts seem a little less congenial.
I know there's a lot of bashing on some of the boards and wondered if you felt the need to protect TER's reputation and give everyone here a fair playing field.
Any post with Bizzaro next to it has been a must read for me since my newbie days and love the twist on my superhero idol from my childhood. I'm glad your here to protect and serve us in our moments of need

comic book portrayals of good vs. evil. My fave is batman - he is truly a man - who is forged by the events around him into a guy fighting evil, but does he "create the evil" he fights?
not really trying to get all heavy here, but if one thinks about it, did God create evil? as he created everything... questions that keep folks much smarter than me up at night....
as to the other gents I mentioned in my post... Lex is a truly funny guy... one day I would really like to meet him.... came close on a couple of occasions but alas it did not happen.
As to the others, I only know them by their posts... it is the playful approach to the hobby, the board, and life in general... that gets my attention - even Jack0 - now missing in action on the P&R board, makes life a bit more ah.... exciting... shall we say - challenging?
No need to protect Ter's reputation - the system that management has put into place seems to work reasonably well... sure everything can be improved... but as a friend of mine who is a consultant said - "everything is possible, ya just gotta give me time and money"!
yea, love the old comic books... where good was good - evil was evil... men were men, and the sheep were scared! lol!!! oops... sorry - that was Montana.... lol!
Thanks for the complement.
The original Superman was a definite bad guy- see the title referenced above.
And the ubermensch won't transcend pity and tolerance only but also good and evil since, according to Mr. N. those are creations of human society.
Batman rocks, as does Spidey. However, The Tick rocks harder than all.
Hmnmm. I think wormwood has a certain super heroesque ring to it, don't you?
you are speaking.... Harry or Matilda.... I personally would not wish to buy a used car from Harry, but would find Matilda quite capable of righting the wrongs of the world.... especially those inflicted by Ms. Trenchbull.... but then again what would I know - as my education was somewhat restricted as I did not attend Crunchem Hall Primary School
Bwahahahahahahaha..... superheroes.... know 'em all.... and their little super powers too....
sadly you are right about the ubermensch... and that is how Hitler got away with it....
ROFL. I was completely unaware of the Roald Dahl stuff! Pretty funny.
One place people often misunderstand Nietzsche's idea of the superman is that the superman doesn't crave or exercise power over others but has complete power over him/herself.
another nightmare... The concept of a person "above the others" is a fairly recurrent theme... witness...
In Walden 2, BF Skinner (yes that Skinner) envisions a community governed by a utopian benevolent system with an entity at the head who guides the community... but as in all cases... there is one "set above" - that is, a first, among equals...
Only problem... who decides who is the "first - among equals..."
As a very wise sociology prof once put it, as long as I can say who goes to jail, we should have jails...
yea.... misunderstand - and look what happens... so much of human tragedy is born of misunderstanding.
mother.... The names in the story roll off the tongue... but perhaps it is Devito's voice over that really sets the tone of the movie... and for me makes it soar.... certainly a tale of telekinesis that is a different from the dark and malevolent tale told by S. King's Carrie as one can get...
Good and evil mean nothing. Everything is gray fog. There are no heros.
Now there was a hero!
and who can't resist a philosopher whose name has five consecutive connsonants in it?
But let us also remember that poor Fredrick was locked up for eating his own excrement, so let's maintain a bit of perspective regarding him.
As for my favorite superhero, I think I would vote for James Bond, and why not? He's as valid a choice as any of the rest and he gets lots of pussy too!
How could a hormone crazed twelve year old go with anyone else?
and the stories of him eating excrement are most likely apocryphal although his madness was not. Let's not hold the dementia of his later life against the brilliance of his earlier thoughts.
You don't think Batman get some serious 'tang? Man, Bruce Wayne is a BILLIONAIRE!
And Spidey's married, at least sometimes, to a supermodel!
And where do you think Superman got the moniker, "The Man Of Steel"?
Doesn't say much for The Flash, though, does it?
