Good luck.. lived through a house fire with plenty of smoke damage...

The company that came to clean had some fluid they used on non-fabrics.  Required repaint and recarpet of entire affected part of the home.
The clothing was pretty much a total loss.
Sometimes that's what the insurance is for.

...solutions/remedies/etc to smoke damage? A friend of mine has a wood burning stove that it used to heat a second floor room. Someone lit a fire in the stove but didn't open the flue. Smoke ended up being so thick you couldn't see the walls when you stood in the middle of the room. They can't afford a professional to come in and take care of the structure defumagation. (I'm trying to work on getting the funds together for that...) Equally, throwing out all the clothes, furniture, furnishings, etc would be devastating... please help. Please.

They make a ozone machine that work good on that it treat the air with a elec charge and clean the air. You might can rent one. Diary farmer use them in milkin barns . If you buy one they where about $300 as best I can rember

We recently had some seriolus fires in San Diego- there was a serious problem and the only thing that seemed to work was an ioinoc ? air freshener. Not the cheap one, be had one at the shop which costs $550- but perhaps you could rent one. Run it in each room of the house - starting with the worst one and quit when you can live with the smell.

You might want to call your insurance company to find out who they use for smoke/mold removal.  They do have a lot of companies that remove smoke damage.  The same comapanies remove mold too.  ie. http://www.maxons.com/site/
These comapnaies aren't cheap..

Might want to try an ozone generator. They are used extensively in various industrial and commercial enterprises to remove odors. Hotels use them as a last resort, when they are trying to rid a room of unwanted odors. Should work on the clothing as well as other furnishings. You will have to leave it on and leave the room for a couple days from what I understand.

Supposedly they can be rented at normal rental centers.

Sorry for being non-specific, just going off things I have seen and read. No personal experience.

.... I do not know who they are (or where you are), but they are basically janitorial services that you call after a disaster.  Don't mean to be insulting, but have you checked Google under "smoke damage" AND repair?  Good luck.

Having lived through a house fire caused by a lightning strike back in 1980, I can sympathize. I didn't have much money, and I was renting so I had to do these things, to save cash. Paint anything that can be painted...it sealed in the odors. Throw out the mattress...no way that can be saved...you'll wake up in the middle of the night, smell smoke and freak out. Wash anything that can be washed with tomatoe juice. It takes skunk spray smell out of clothing, and worked for me with the smoke on clothing, and window coverings. (don't ask, 8-( the tomatoe juice/skunk spray thing would be a thread for the humor section!)  Try a spray product that removes odors, like Febreze on all surfaces, and they even make some that goes in the washer now. Good luck.

I have heard that white vinegar neutralizes smoke odor. Try setting up saucers of vinegar around the room.  Cost should be a couple of bucks.
