I have always been wary of giving out very personal information often required by providers for screening purposes (real names, cell phones, work numbers, etc...), but recently had two occasions where I gave out this information and never received a response from the provider. Both were providers with many positive reviews on TER, but I am now even more wary of giving out this info. Would love to have thoughts from both fellow hobbyists and providers, as I see this as a two-way street... protecting the providers and the hobbyists.
To be honest, I think it's far more likely that they are just being disorganized and running their business badly than anything more sinister. The vast majority of us are not interested in your personal details for anything other than establishing that you are (probably) not a psycho or LE. I do appreciate your concern about the very small minority who could potentially misuse your personal information as I am also am very careful (verging on paranoid) about these types of things.
Why not use a service like Date Check, which will withold these details from the provider but ensure she can verify you? (It's a good way for the girls to verify gentlemen at short notice, too).
so how a provider got my info would be a matter of public record... therefore no worries and complete deniability... that is, if anyone would say, well how did I get your name & number... all I would have to say is, "its on the web... and I really do not know why this person would wish to get my name & Number - ask them, not me!"
to how much information I will give out. I am probably willing to give out more than most guys, but it's all readily accessible if someone really wants it. I figure that by the time I've done my homework, and am ready to contact a lady, I've already decided that she is someone who I have chosen to trust, and hopefully will trust me due to the information I have shared with her.
Thanks for the replies... I can't say why clients would not respond back. Maybe they are just taking a shotgun approach??? I prefer to pursue one provider at a time, so when I get a response, I usually book the appointment.
I like the idea of plausible deniability using info readily available on the web.
I give a hell of a lot more information to a bank employee (SSN, date of birth, mother's maiden name) than I do to a provider. They're making like 10 bucks an hour. What's to stop them from selling that info to identity thieves who can really do me serious harm. I don't assume that a provider, particular one who has been around awhile, is more devious than anyone else I deal with. I've never had the slightest problem with one yet.
Well, I can only give you an example from my life, but...
I had made contact to see a couple of ladies in the coming weeks - just the initial reference check - but my schedule changed abruptly yesterday and I'll now be quite alot more busy than I thought I was going to be - there's no point in attempting to schedule something even a few weeks into the future so I prefer not to waste the ladies' time.
If you have a recommendation on the polite thing to do in such a case, I'm all ears... this is kind of the point at which you're in the in-between area of not owing the person an explanation, but maybe it's polite to give one anyway depending on what level of implied commitment you indicated in your initial contact with them...
Thats the name of the game, and i know for alot of Hobbyists it can be a very uneasy feeling giving out that info to a strange woman, but you must understand a GOOD HIGH STANDING PROVIDER OF THIS COMMUNITY would take your info to the grave with her! and the only reason it's done is mostly for OUR protection to verify who you say you are is the truth, VERIFY VERIFY VERIFY..it's the nature of the beast in this very dangerous thing we do. As a Hobbyist participating with the great Providers on TER and other sites you must understand it's a necessary evil that you must submit too, and if you choose not to go along with our program, you can always cruise the downtown streets of L.A. open your car door and get what you need with no verification, but one thing you can be sure of, the percentages of getting your wings clipped and standing before a judge who you will have no choice but to give all your personal info too...Trust my words here, and read them carefully A GOOD PROVIDER WILL TAKE YOUR PERSONAL INFO TO THE GRAVE WITH HER!! Jay
I feel both the provider and the client should be taking steps to verify each other. My suggestions for you are to stick with the well reviewed ladies, always go with your gut feeling, and as AlexKingsley suggested, you may want to try a screening service like datecheck, preferred411, or rommservice2000.
