Getting Personal Data Removed from the "GOOGLE"

Hello all, I was new to the computer 4 years ago as there was not a computer based society when I grew up,  and as I was learning I did something stupid.
I am writing to TER asking for help and at the same time trying to learn how to clean things off the general google search.

I fully know that if things like old email addresses and such are removed they will fall out of the immeadiate search with google within 3 weeks to 6 months.

Yes, things will be cached for storage but at least it is a way to start. I goofed up yes, I know by not having a "drop email address" used only for non-professional things and yes every post is a record. But there has to be some better ideas out there. Changing email address is ok, but some old ones could still be on records and people would or can find names/phone numbers/email address etc.

We already have learned valuable hard lessons about privacy, but I am asking about trying to clean up old mistakes before I learned. Any help is appreciated. You may also PM me.

several ways to go about this:

1) the first step is to contact the webmaster of any site where your personal information may be exposed and ask them to remove that information. that can happen quickly but depending on how much you put yourself out there they may or may not be able to be very helpful. if it is practical for them to remove your information all well and good. the web crawlers that update caches for the search engines (Google, Yahoo!, etc) will eventually update their caches with the new web pages with your info deleted. it is a pain in the butt for everyone else but you.

2) abandon the e-mail addresses you exposed. if asked for an explanation claim identity theft. reload your old addresses into a new e-mail account that you will keep _secure_ this time. open a second e-mail account for fun and games _only_. this is more work for you, is also more under your control and puts the burden of labor where it belongs. it is what i would do if i were you but YMMV.

Thanks texcat, TER has been very good and easy to work with. You know it amazes me how the search engines will find something from 4 years ago and then all of the sudden place that with a email address.

I watch this also as a point of technological fascination and horror.

I have found that if there were always delete buttons or a way to amend posts you could in essence make them non-sensicle (if there is such a word), this will take time.

I am asking you if we make a TER name change will that then change hopefully all your name throughout the board. This is something I would thing the webmaster could do with a keystroke. Maybe I am just wishing.

my original handle was texcatlipoca and some folks found that charming and literary and others found it too much trouble.

so i requested Admin to change my handle and it happened. old posts appeared under the new handle and my reviews transferred over nicely.

easy peasie

Sadly there is an archive that keeps alot of things. www.archive.org....aka waybackmachine.
