If it scares you that much, why do you even have it installed?!?! Just uninstall it AND the index it build.

If for some reason you aren't at liberty to uninstall GDS (work PC, not having Admin rights, etc..) there is a utility you can run that will wipe out your existing GDS index and start a new one from scratch. This will get rid of all the old legacy "bad stuff" that GDS is storing in its index. Another tip is to change the GDS settings so that it does not index Web history data.

But you aren't totally out of the woods. Windows has built in full text search capabilities. Granted its much slower than GDS, but it's still crawling and indexing your cookies, bookmarks, files, etc.. Setting your browser to not keep any web page history (set all the limits to zero, delete history on exit, etc.) will help reduce (but not solve) this vulnerability.  

Long story short though.....GDS isn't the problem. It doesn't put the bad stuff on your PC, it just makes it easier for a novice to find.

I installed Google Desktop and after restarting, had connectivity issues.  When I looked at available networks, a ghost network I picked up traveling and managed to delete after much trial and tribulation, was back again.  I quickly uninstalled, rebooted and luckily had no more issues.
I'm such a sucker for shit like that.

just be careful that you know what you are deleting.

I use Firefox as my browser and it has an option to clear private data that you can set to clear everything: cache, history, passwords, saved form info, URLs, cookies, etc.

I use firefox too and have grown to love it.  I find it works faster than IE, but then again I'm not using it on Windows but on my main computer that runs Linux.  Between the two, my web browing outsmokes the Windows/IE7 box every time.

I have to run the Windows box for iTunes, which hasn't been ported to Linux yet :(
