A friend of mine received a Serius home radio for her birthday last Summer. She was recently given 2 years subscription by another admirer’s largess and another just gave her the hardware/istalation for her automobile for Xmas.(and they dare say its a man's world?)

Just as cable television never shut down the movie houses as they had feared it would way back in the 1960's neither will Howard Stern end commercial FM radio. If Howard proves the catalyst to popularize satalite "Pay" radio and negatively effect advertising revenues to conventional FM then Clear channel, Infinity Broadcasting and the rest will only have themselves to blame for their short sighted complicity.

I dumped XM radio back in September when they canceled my favorite premium channel (Playboy Radio) and switched over to Sirius.  Although I had to buy a new radio, since the 2 satellite technologies are not compatible, I'm glad that I made the move!

I've only listened to Howard occasionally in the past, but I'm really looking forward to his new show on Sirius.  Rumor has it that a new Playboy channel is also coming to Sirius next year ...Yeah!!!

Although the Howard Stern of 2005 is not near that of pre-1995 (still miss Billy West and Jackie the Jokeman), it's still way beyond what will be left on 'terrestrial' radio.

As much as the newly reconstituted FCC under that wingnut Martin would like to, I don't think that they'll be able to go after Stern on Sirius. The corporate honchos who truly run the GOP can't afford to let Martin go after the pay services on cable (e.g., HBO) or satellite radio. It would ruin the telecom business models, which depend on porn being served up 24/7.

If so, this would leave Martin/FCC to additionally censor so-called 'free' radio, which would make it even more worthless.
