In my experience, the boards have always been this way.  Gambler moderated here for years and can add more context if he wants.  Personally, it doesn't bother me.  But everyone's different and, if it's not for you that's fine.  I'm a member of several boards and they all have this kind of sniping, to one extent or the other.  Just remember, it's all words on a screen; sound and fury, signifying nothing.

It seems to me that, when left to themselves (pretty-much unmoderated), humans degenerate to bad behavior. It is off-putting and annoying, I agree. Yes, the "Over 60" board is/was much nicer and more polite than the rough and tumble GD board, It was/is also boring as hell and is dying a slow death of it's own making.

Not tom mention some of the biggest "poo slingers" here, CCPA, Me, LR, Inicky, Curly et al are hardly anonymous, In my case not only do I NOT post with an alias, but I was outed quite some time ago and all my "real" information is there for anyone who cares to look. That hasn't slowed me down for even a moment.

We are for the most part, a community of likeminded people who come together to give each other shit. If anyone is actually crying over the things said here, then they don't belong here. Most of us can take it and dish it out, and nothing really is taken that seriously. I have never outed a guy's personal info. because he was an asshole on TER. If you want a more gentle place to post, try the Newbie Board and that's not a condescending suggestion, but the reality of it. Many people have messaged me saying the GD is too rough for them, so you're not alone.  

No one can run anyone else off lol. As if. Either you have a thick skin to deal with the insults or you don't, but guys are not going to stop calling women old, fat, etc. when we make them look like the little mice that they are. I can't count the number of times I have been called names, including the C word...did not run me off. Not a single thing any of us says on here makes a difference in that person's real life, and if it does, they have more underlying issues than they realize.

The first time I read through these forums, I thought I was on a WWF forum, not a place to talk about pleasure. The first time I posted something dumb, the replies made me step back and ask "WTF?"

I often visit a discussion forum of and for aficionados of a particular brand of historically pedestrian and ‘mature’ motorcycle. THEY cannot even be civil amongst themselves.

Pretty much every board is like this. Check out Yahoo. Even CNN is not much better. At the end of the day, nobody gives a shit. We are just here to kill time and have some fun. Some posts do provide great entertainment values. I rarely post here because my eyes strain reading most of the junks here. Go to the RO board once you have 10 reviews or post on your local board. They are not as tense in my opinion (at least the DC board is very mild).

The guys that you have mentioned, myself among them are some of the most helpful, not to mention knowledgeable posters here. For an example, I was the moderator of the Newbie board for years. We talk about the ISSUES all the time, we also engage in a certain amount of towel snapping, and most of us have a disdain for stupidity.

When board trolls like Asscalade, Udon't, or FIDIOt, or stalkers like Herpius and the Dungbeetle come on here we COULD choose to ignore them, but if we did before long they would be the only ones heard from on this board. It is only a pipe dream that if you ignore a board troll he will eventually go away. I have been here for about a decade and I promise you that simply is not the case. So we can either ignore the trolls, which has been proven not to work, we can engage them, which gives them credibilty, or we can ridicule them. Three guesses as to which option we have chosen. lol

and please, "can't get laid" anyone with a couple of hundred bucks can get laid here, I get laid just about everyday, and just like London it doesn't affect my post count in the least. lol

Hobbyists who dominate this board seem insecure in their masculinity, narcissistic, and/or lonesome and trying to create an illusion for themselves that they have a love life.  They should bear in mind that they are, after all, paying a mommy to make nice to their pee-pee.  However, there are also some very witty and insightful Hobbyist posters.  A few of the Provider posters seem consumed with anger, possibly because of the way these kinds of men use them or possibly because they got into this business for the wrong reasons.  As a group, the Providers seem more inclined to stress the underlying interpersonal humanity and compassion in our common endeavor.

TER is full of assholes trying to prove they are the biggest asshole. One of the reasons I quit logging on as much.

If you pay attention, there are only a certain few that always have something ridiculously immature to say.  You will also notice that the amount of time & energy that they spend here, of all places and all things that they could be doing in life, should speak volumes to you and be glad you are not one of them.
