So if I were on here and asking a medically specific question and I knew there were folks with some kind of medical background who who were better able to answer a very specific question (but not one that needs an actual consultation) - asking folks who specifically fit into that target group for a response only means that I am preferring a specific quality/level/perspective of answer. Obviously, on a public forum, anyone can answer but the sought out responses are "highlighted" by saying 'XYZ only' and I am actively encouraging/asking them to participate in the discussion. I see nothing wrong with this approach and it has been done in other TER discussion boards in various formations and subtext.

What's your opinion about threads that say "for ladies only"?

If I have something to add to a thread I will regardless.

"I'd think that on a General Discussion board it would be possible to write questions in a way so as to not exclude the vast majority of TER members. "~NoYellowEnvelope

I'm with NoYellowEnvelope on this one.

If I want to know information that only a lady can provide, why would I seek the opinion of a man?  Also, why would I want to waste a guy's time soliciting a response to such a question?

Now, inevitably, some poor guy will feel the need to chime in on a ladies only thread.  That's fine.  But at the end of the day, that tells me more about the guy than it does add value to the OP.
