Gentlemen, please for YOUR sake keep SEPARATE hobby and professional emails.

If you can, use different email providers for each aspect of your life.

Just this week I have received 3 invitations to connect via LinkedIn.

When you join LinkedIn, don't automatically import all your email contacts, you may end up with very "interesting" connections for all your colleagues to see.

Curly, I think you are in your early 30's if I recall. Most in the hobby are in their 50's & 60's and just arent that tech savvy and arent aware of all the ramifications of using LinkedIn with all its functionality and features. It's lack of knowledge for sure, but I dont think it's stupidity, for the most part.

doesn't translate to using your real email address for hobbying...

I understand not being tech savvy, but one has to know that hobby is not legal in US and using your real email address can only get you in trouble...

Let me give you an example.. A very sloppy, albeit well known provider in DC area twice, not once, sent out a mass email CCing everyone on her list, instead of BCCing.. Granted it could have been mistake on her part, but I saw tons of guys who had given her their work email addresses, email addresses with your ISP such as (comcast, cox, verizon etc..)

Setting up a fake gmail or yahoo id doesn't require you to be tech savvy at all...

mass mailings or bcc's or hijacked email accounts as much as younger guys. Its just not something many of them knew the dowsnide of when they started off hobbying.

Many of them are blue collar guys too who may have less knowledge how these things work. What may be second nature to you because you are a "hard core hobbyist" lol, isnt to the vast majority of guys out there that may have only see 1-2 women a year.

Or maybe they originally gave out their work email way back when, but have since switched, but those original work email are still in a girls inbox. Technology has bit many people in the ass and it wasnt because they were necessarily stupid. Look how many newbs on th newbie board have to be told to get a burn email account right? Are they all stupid? No, they're uninformed. Big difference. Thats all I am saying.

I have clients that are all over the map on ages.  And some of the "kids" that I do work for are well behind the "old men and women" in computer savvy.  Honestly, I've got a few in their 90's who are more savvy than kids still in college.

And for folks like me...well, I've been playing with computers since they arrived on the scene back in the very early 80's.  And hell, back then I was writing programs for a number of "well reviewed" major CPA firms.

So over the years I have stayed up with the technology...usually right there on the cutting edge.

I do agree that it isn't a matter of stupidity on a newb's part...rather they are ignorant of how this game can and does get played.  Not quite the same as sending out emails to potential clients who simply reply...or not.  But to send using personal and business email addresses to hookers...not a real good idea.  Frankly, too many dumb hookers who have minimal computer skills.  And just think...those are the "kids" that are supposed to be savvy  LOL

Curly mentioned "stupidity" as a reason why guys would use business emails to hobby with. I was just offering another possible alternative. Lack of knowlegde. And sometimes that lack of knowledge is due to the fact that the "more mature generation" GENERALLY speaking lol, isnt as tech savvy as the younger generation or up to snuff on all the pitfalls of the IT world. You really would argue with that? Seems like common sense to me...And it has NOTHING to do with "ageism" as another poster wrote. It has everything to do with experience or lack there of, which is something completely different.

As those folks would unquestionably have more experience.  Simply as a function of age.

Now...would I presume that most U35 folks have a better grasp on how email works than +70...yup!

But that is just a presumption.  As I stated earlier...too many dumb hookers under 40 have no clue the differences between CC and BCC.  And from my experiences...too many of the U40 crowd in this game anyhow have NO clue how to send files or retrieve them.  And heaven forbid that we get a spreadsheet involved.  But if we want to tip our hats to the U30 crowd...they could out text anyone into submission  LOL

But I gotta tell ya BPM...I've got a few +90 clients that could run circles around most geeks.  Unusual?  Perhaps.  But true never the less.  Hmmm...wonder if any of them are here?

You consider hookers dumb...well some are, some are not, but here's the kicker, us dumb hookers get $$$ and up an hour to simply suck a bit of dick, and fuck all those super intelligent men that the women of the world (wives included) find too gross to fuck.

So, while you smart guys make all the money, it saddens me that you still have to pay some dumb hooker to pretend to give a shit and make you believe that she is interested in your ass (and you do) *laughing all the way to the bank*.

Oh and I get help typing  as I can't read or write and can barely dress myself. But I can still make more per hour than what a reallllyyyy smart neurosurgoen makes ....hmmm.

What makes you think I pay for anything here?  Rather presumptuous on your part.

And I know quite well what many medical professionals make....remember I do see behind the curtain.

As well as I would bet anything that YOU and most hookers (as in 99+%) don't make as much as what those folks (medical professionals) pay in taxes.

And guess what...I see behind that curtain as well.

So you tell yourself how much you make...and let me know when you actually don't have to fuck a man to pay your rent.  I know that you hate men...you've said so in nearly every post.  So until YOU don't HAVE to hook for a living to pay to survive...Don't try and sell anyone with an IQ over 18 that YOU make more than a typical clerical worker.

You don't!  And you don't even get the benefits of working at a Company...like health insurance.

Do you really know where the bank is?

Is ignorance a better word - more politically correct, if you will..

But whatever word you use, bottom line is one should put extra thought into it, because hobbying is illegal..

This is not the same as sending out birthday invite from your work email..

I sometimes look at outgoing traffic in my company's firewall and see all kinds of attempted access to websites that people shouldn't be going to from their work computer..

*Edited for Grammar...

Which makes it especially funny when someone looks at my website from company networks, contacts me and then gives "I can't tell you my private info" song and dance.

Those are coming from my work computer...sorry  LOL

No matter if you have separate email accounts or not, LinkedIn as well as other social networking sites "offer" to import your contacts, or even browse your contacts for people you may know.  They don't differentiate between 'work', 'personal', or 'hobby' accounts, they just look for accounts on your computer, and it certainly doesn't warn you about mixing them up!  Probably not the first this has happened to nor the last, so the warning is fair.

so I can connect with hookers.

It is very interesting to see all of those connections...by the way  :D

I did put as my title "Professional Whore Monger"....and have had thousands of invitations.  I can't imagine why!

Oh...and just for saturnsky...I put my occupation as astronomer...in search of celestial bodies.  Now some actually think I'm related to Carl Sagan.

I setup a separate email account just for Hobby purposes:  [email protected]
it's very easy to do with yahoo or gmail. Just make sure that your "Real Name" does not appear in the "from message". Send yourself a test email to make sure. I was getting emails from a provider's yahoo account which had her "Real Name" in the from line. I quicjkly told her this so she could correct it.

Maybe I'm a little more on the ball some of the other in my age bracket, but I think some of your opinions of older guys being slow is just ageism.

Anyway... For me... EVERYTHING in my civie life is separate from my hobby life.  I'm even accessing this  via a browser on incognito.   Separate Hobby email/twitter account etc.  Separate passwords and user names for everything, and all of those in an encrypted file system.  It's just good practice.

But also, within in my civie life, I still keep my Facebook posts separate from my LinkedIn, from a separate Twitter account.   It's all very compartmentalized.

Play Safe, Play Smart

When I started a few years ago I had no chops in the Internet version of whore-mongering.  So I did my freakin' homework.  Went on TER and other sites and read up.  Set up several hobby (gag) email accounts, got a hobby (gag) phone.  Joined P411 and D-C.  No fuckups yet.  It just ain't that hard.
As for gals who forget to bcc their list on newsletters, I've seen it happen a few times.  In every case it was a smart girl just making a dumb clerical error.  Word to the wise: it will continue to happen, so if you are dumb enough to use a personal or business email address, don't blame her.  Blame your own dumb ass.
