A couple of ladies I've has the pleasure of visiting have shown up as "People You May Know" on my Facebook page. I contacted them by cell phone. I always use an incognito tab when internet searching for fun. How does this happen?  How can I prevent this in the future?

Their algorithm is insane. Even if u don't have a Facebook, u sort of do already. If ur friends have a Facebook with pics where u may or may not appear. They already have certain information on you depending if you're tagged in the pic. I think they have a photo recognition software built in now. If your phone is registered on Facebook, and you used that number to call those girls. Guess what? You will be seeing more of those profiles on your Facebook as possible friends. Same goes for them if they have your number on their phones and they have their Facebook accessing their contact list. Makes u think twice about having any type of social media account.

I deleted all social media seriously. I hate that there is a possibility people could keep tabs on me and worse of all that our online worlds may cross over by accident. I personally would avoid all social media associated with your phone. Maybe you should create an account with a different name or middle name without providing your number.

It's too risky for me. Especially if my mom is on there or my SO having them being suggested clients....NO NO NO for sure.

Deactivating your account is relatively easy but all of the info remains on their servers and you still show up on searches. To delete your account you have to find the link in the help section and follow a procedure to take it all out. Even then there is a week long waiting period before they will delete all of your info in case you change your mind.

I immediately said "HELL NO!!!" to all of it, and plan on continuing to boycott all Social Media.

Facebook has a thing through Facebook messenger of people you may know, I would use Google voice that you can reserve to use only when you hobby and do not contact ladies via regular cell phone.

Also go into your Facebook settings and remove them from having permission to access your contacts. I remembered emailing a fellow that was interested in being more than friends and sent me a friends request on Facebook. I was mortified. These worlds should never mix, IMHO.

Why no AA men?

that not being on FB will be seen as an admission of something to hide, or perhaps just plain weirdness.

In either case, I have heard that some perspective employers will either discount or flat out black ball a job seeker's application if they can not investigate their private life on Face Book.

To me that is ultra creepy, and I'd glad to be on the closing pages of that whole scene, but I feel for those just starting out in life

...a few years ago in which the interviewer asked for my FB password so they could examine my deleted history...

I didn't get that job...

The next time someone posts about "Just change your settings." or "Just use discretion." please reply with your experience and warning.

FB, Twitter, Google ... they all trump "discretion"

AVOID SOCIAL MEDIA

I'd hate to go to bed every night waving nighty-night to my boss who is viewing me on a camera

If he was still around, I'd probably watch some TV.

Now I'm going to go watch some vintage TZ on You Tube

My friends complain they can't share my stuff.  Too bad.  I only have FB to view grandkids pictures anyway.

I have separate emails for everything.  I won't let my email or FB have my phone numbers.  Can't even get a email anymore with out a Phone Number...  (it would be a number I promptly change).  Must be constantly vigilant to fight the spying trolls.

...but i know some with android-OS phones who have experienced this as well.

Facebook actively mines your phone for contact information unless you tell the apps not to (both Facebook and Facebook Messager do this), and it's not just restricted to phone numbers. It will mine any app you have on your phone as well. So just because you didn't save someone's contact information in your phone doesn't mean facebook can't get at it.

I had something similar happen to me when co-workers started being recommended to me as "people i may know".  A lot of people were experiencing this issue, and it turned out that there's a setting in the iPhone that automatically lets Facebook mine your phone for data, and you have to switch it off.

It sucks, and despite having had turned off the feature, I still deal with it from time to time.  When those people show up, I simply block their profiles

Use my flip-phone most of the time.  One or two of my ATF's whom I trust, I have text messaged from my I-Phone.  Have never had FB issues, and if I did, I am positive the ladies would want to remain UTR as well

I also don't sync my contacts with any of my social media, and I recently got a separate phone as my provider phone, so now everything is separate!

Facebook app and hobby phone do not mix! Just my opinion.
