I recently discovered that deleted digital images on compact flash and other digital media sticks can be easily recovered. So next time you take some "fun" picks with the camera that you share with you SO, be aware that she could view them even after they are erased.
Digital cameras store the data on memory cards. Get a card reader for your PC, then get the extra software that can REALLY wipe disks. When the camera card is inserted into the card reader it appears as just another disk on the PC. Wipe it 7-8 times with the special grade software.
If you have the right (and very expensive) forensic gear, you can recover some data at virtually all times; I know of case where a half burned disc was salvaged (as least as to the percetnage of data on the non-burned parts).
