For persons in the northern hemisphere, particularly north of the tropics, there is a natural increase in sex drive such that children born 9 months later are born into late spring and early summer abundance.

During most of our evolution we didn't have handy dandy supermarkets and climate controlled housing. Compared to the 4.5 million years of divergent evolution from our apely cousins, the 6k-10k years of agriculture (and even less in some populations) is a comparative flash in the pan.

So our sex drive increases to allow for more offspring to be born at a time when abundant food for mommy and baby is naturally available. This increases the chances of survival of offspring; or at least did in our evolutionary environment.

You'll find the same phenomenon at the exact opposite side of the calendar for persons in the southern hemisphere south of the tropics.

The fact we have cell phones doesn't exempt us from the fact we are a part of nature and sometimes obey its dictates while thinking the idea is our own.
