I'm all for selling as many as I can.
doctors now a greater health risk than hobbyists ?
and the death rate plummeted!
Medicine is perhaps our number one cause of death.
How could any medical professional be so gawdamm stupid?
You'd be surprised how many DOCTORS want to go BB. Their out there.
Geez--of all the people who should know better!
that they DID know better. All of the nurses involved have lost their licenses to practice (as they should) and a criminal investigation of the physicians who ordered the practice is under way. With any luck, the physicians will be prosecuted criminally and will not get away with just a fine.
What is more criminal, and has not been reported apparently outside of local reports, is that nurses who had worked there and would not participate in the events going on at the clinic filed complaints with the Clark County Health District (the place they were supposed to report such practices). Their complaints were not investigated. Yet, no one is talking about the failure of the County to respond to those complaints.
The lack of follow up on the complaints makes it even more depressing.
of the money and it is true that more people get likely to be infected in a hospital than anywhere else! or they are given wrong dose or just wrong medication.
that is true, people go to the er with a stomach ache and come out with a virus or skin infection and numerous other illnesses.
How many times have they found instruments and surgical wipes left in people who have been operated on and weren't cleaned up properly after it? they let the assitant which usually are students do it without a doctor watching over.
thats why a drs. insurance is so high because of all the mistakes they make! its sad!
It started about 2 months ago maybe even 3 now. The first clinic was caught which lead to the investigation of 6 others. Over 40,000 people were exposed. So far I think they said there are 6 documented cases of Hep C, and 2 cases of HIV, which are believed to have come from the clinic. There are so many law suites going right now that they had to break it down to one major case I think. One lawyer that I personally know that is offering his services to the folks, has over 150 cases alone.
It's terrible to think of how many people were put at risk because the asshat doctor didn't want to spend 8 cents for a new syringe. The doors are still open at some of the clinics, NOW. But all 7 were immediately shut down for business, except to allow people in to get results etc. The doctors who were involved are suspended and I doubt they will be back.
People who went to the clinics though are having one hell of a time getting their medical records because they are all at the police station. I think they started to release them sometime last month to people. But it's a mess and this is a daily event on the local news here.
I feel sorry for everyone who was put at risk though. Scary to think that it could have happen to anyone. I had to get my blood drawn the week after it was announced, for prenatal stuff and HIV, Herpes, and Hep C. (My usual 3 month check up) I went to ask my nurse, if the needle was new, and before I could finish, she showed me it was coming out of the package. She said everyone has been terrified that has came in since it first aired.
Can you blame em?
How much could a new needle have cost? I have to think you're close at $0.02. How many would you have to recycle to pay for the risk? Millions, if not billions!
whole thing on the news. Basically, after the 2 yrs they have been re using the needles and syringes, the doctor saved all of 2800 dollars. Obviously not that extreme of a savings.
but on a psychological basis.
I see this often at work where a person will actually spend more effort and energy to use a substandard piece of equipment or tool rather than spend a little money and upgrade it.
It used to be called the Depression Era Syndrome (I saw it in my 1917 born father all the time, and I have to admit to being infected with it myself.)
Now it's called just being stupid.
I think we all are guilty to some extent.
I see my dad do this.. Duct tape and bailing wire and 3 hours of hassle when the right pert is a dollar. Sheesh! Thank gawd he is not a doctor! lol
as a major industrialized country who should have more than enough money to pay for new syringes and enough resources to obtain them at a minimal cost, this is DISGUSTING.

This wasn't the act of a major industrialized country, it was grossly negligent stupidity by some a-holes who ran a clinic. Very damaging irresponsible decisions by individuals who had enough education to know better. They were shut down, had their licenses suspended, and will likely be prosecuted for public endangerment in some form. This has nothing to do with whether or not the US has enough wealth to pay the minimal cost of new syringes.
