You might not realize that Disney also owns Miramax films which put out a whole bucket load of material that could be considered anything but consevative. Disney's wholesome image may still be there but believe me they haven't represented old style American values since Walt himself died.
Eisner control of the company really showed this. These types of programs like 20/20 just like cashing in on current issues that can garner high ratings.
I didn't see the show so I wont comment on whether it was accurate or not. I doubt it was truthful though, only a total fool relies on the media in this country to keep them accuratly informed.
I read with great interest the justifiable anger in the previous thread about the 20/20 "expose" last night about providers------I got peeved myself, but not as worked up as most because I KNEW this was going to happen. Keep in mind that the U.S. is a VERY puritanical nation & the ABC tv network belongs to Disney, a very conservative corporation. Did you expect them to extol the virtues of providing ? Did you expect Disney to produce an animated version of "Snow White & the 7 Hobbyists" ? I suppose if there were a less biased show about providing it would be produced by such cable channels as Playboy & Spice ( do they still exist ? )
All of us hobbyists in the know would instantly know that the show was BS because through TER,
( through in person encounters, discussion boards & the chatroom ), that there are many GREAT providers ;sweet, generally happy & well adjusted women who really love what they do. I've had great experiences w/ several of them---but of COURSE, 20/20 would NEVER cover a story such as this---they'd much rather go in for crass manipulation. The prime example of this happened when Sawyer interviewed the "well-adjusted" courtesan & forced her to admit she had
"emotional issues"----what a pile of garbage---who among us DOESN'T have "emotional issues"?----like Sawyer doesn't have them ?!-----LMAO.
What is particularly amusing to me is that you KNOW that several of the male ABC employees who worked on this DRECK, most likely frequent providers themselves----what a bunch of sanctimonious hypocrites----call it the "Spitzer syndrome".
Speaking of hypocrites, I'M turning into one myself, because as I write this unintentional screed ,I'M becoming very pissed myself----LMAO !
Ehhh, WTF------I'll finish this all off by agreeing with everyone that the show was a crock of crap.
I had a dream we were all on Doctor Phil together. But instead of sitting on chairs, we were all sitting on individual toilets. Only these were prison toilets, lacking a lid and a seat. And he asks us how we likes pooping without privacy, because we better get use to it. Then the audience applauded and we cut away to a commercial. During that time, Mr Fisher discovered the toilets had mini-cams in them and we were broadcasting our bowel movements live on the big Times Square electronic marquee. We all went on to having the highest rated show in history.

Before the show aired. I agree, no one should be at all surprised about the approach that was taken. Television is in the business of selling advertising time, not impartiality.

The show lived up to expectations really, no network outside of HBO is going to focus on the positives of the hobby. There are two sides to every coin, the hobby has its negatives too. Especially with street level prostitution not many sweet, generally happy & well adjusted women who give $20 blow jobs to strangers in cars.
Actually Disney is not as conservative as it used to be when it was started by a certain anti-semitic cartoonist. I understand that they now have same-sex unions at their parks and on their cruise ship.

But I digress. The reason that 20/20 isn't going to do a show about the real everyday experience of the hobby is that it would be too boring to put on TV. What most of us do to set up sessions is pretty ho-hum: due diligence on TER, checking references, etc. No one wants to watch that.
Not4lng beat me to it.
I live & work in LA/OC area, family has annual passes to the "magic kingdom". The Disney corp. openly recruits in the Gay/Lesbo areas since a high perponderance of gay couples like the stuff Disney Corp. puts out and so they have a built in loyal employee base w/ that community. It's funny the amount of $ that these employees return to the company via spending money on Disney Merchandise (I live in a very Gay area of LB & you can see in many of the homes in this area lots of Disney stuff - ex. would be original artwork $$$$)
I didn't see it, but your review makes sense. It's no surprise that the media is biased in just about every facet of its reporting. It's almost chilling to realize how much of our media is controlled by TWO MEN (Sumner Redstone and Rupert Murdoch - CEOs of Viacom/News Corp.). Add in NBC and Disney and you literally have more than 75% of our major media...yikes.
Is this available online at all? I'd like to watch it if someone has a link
..and listened to her talk about what pigs the guys were. If she only knew, right? Glad I fell asleep before she started having a discussion about it, I know that wouldn't have gone good!

Tall : conservative is a relative term---if a network puts on a show that only shows the seamy side of providing & not its positive aspects, then it's conservative to me. The premium cable channels have much a much looser censorship & moral code---I believe in the past they've done non-judgmental shows on providing .
One thing I neglected to mention( besides the public outcry & FCC sanctions), why network TV would never broadcast a show extolling providing-----the conservative corporations that make up tv advertisers would NEVER sponsor such a show ( unless the sole sponsor was Viagra, which would ensure a rise in ratings-----ugh ! )
viagra cialus condon companies and that herpies drug, there you go. oh I forgot, Victoria's Secrets as well.

well I thought about adding them to the list, I love shopping there...but have not ever seen a commercial that I can remember them doing.
I've seen your comments in the political forum. Your swastika is showing and it is distasteful. Please keep your political leanings out of General discussion.
WTF??? talk about the pot calling the kettle black!! sounds to me like someone dosen't want an open and frank discussion. That kind of talk only impedes an open frank discussion, it dosen't contriubute to it.
I think Senor needs to heed his own advise!
