I've taken a few pictures for publication in ads and was also given permission to take some POV pics and vids for my own enjoyment. I did send the girl several of the best pics for her to see.
That's not to say it's difficult to tell which photos are done by a professional photog, a semi-pro, a complete amateur, or are selfies.
I have been one of those clients who has taken providers' photos on request, and I was glad to help them out. Often it's post-coital and/or when she was in various stages of undress, including full nudity. One occasion was really memorable. We had seen each other numerous times before, and on that particular night, we were going to have our first 3some, and when she opened the door to greet me, she was dressed to the nines in a sexy party dress. Her girlfriend was late in arriving, so as we waited, she got the idea of us running down to the lobby and taking some photos. I knew full well she planned to use them in future ads, it didn't bother me a bit. I was her photog for that night, and she loved the way the pix looked.

several years ago and we came across a beautiful deserted beach. She asked me to take some photos of her so I did. She uses a couple of them on her website from time to time. However, I think 95% of the ad photos fall into the two categories you suggest, either professional or selfie.
Proffesional photos are great but customers doesn't trust too much because the edition with photoshop. So I use my own pics and videos with my phone. Now smartphones have great cameras with high quality, so I produce it by myself using the timer. I can make photo sessions and videos for my ads and also to use it in plataforms to sell this type of material. I only need a good tripod and patience.
But they also had pro pix. One favorite used an ass shot I took of her as her avatar on another site. Another -- total nut job -- had me snap one with my dick in her mouth and put it on her web site until it was explained to her what a bad idea that was.

Lol, I've seen some provider's ads like that; some guy's dick or some guys' dicks stuffed into them. I've never understood why they thought it was good advertising, but then again, maybe some people like it. Personally, I can envision myself with a lady without the graphics of another guy doing the deed. If I'm looking at her photos in an ad, man-muscle doesn't need to be a part of it.
[As an aside, I contacted a lady last month via WhatsApp where we discussed her services and the arrangements for a session. A few days later, her profile photo changed from being just her to a loving image of her with a boyfriend or husband all hugged up together. Over the following days, a couple of other photos with the same guy popped up. I didn't bring it up, but I can't imagine it was intentional. I think she either used only one phone for everyday life and provider life, or she mistakenly posted on her burner phone.]
