Definitely a crapshoot...

with a new gal and her booker/assistant. I've had the joy of working with 2 amazing bookers - one in LA and the other a kgirl booker in LV. They've both set the bar very high and I find myself expecting all other bookers to measure up to them. They rarely do. But I keep an open mind and an optimistic mindset anyway.

Don't you hate "handlers" that basically are very demanding during the referral check phase, then they "ghost" you?

A few gals over the years have admitted during the session that it was themselves doing it, to give the appearance that there is more than her in her business.

But those actual handlers that ghost give the crappy first impression for the gal that costs them business.

Providers:  Your thoughts?   Better time management?  Handlers taking on more than they can handle?

No need to deal with a 3rd party, or have anyone else in our business, unless they’re entertaining you as well. I don’t think it makes a provider more professional. If anything it lets me know they are only able to entertain if the show up. Many horror stories with bookers I have heard & would never need one. It reminds me of working for an agent. I book my own dates. Thank you.

or they can gum up the works.

I have only a few experiences with these bookers, and only a couple that were regrettable.

One was particularly good, and I told the gal so.   She told me that this booker was her mom.

I kid you not.   It was her mom, I even got to meet her a few times, may she now RIP.

Mom as screener. Gummed up variation.
.
A popular and Sweet Provider was going to be visiting Boston from Philly. I made contact well ahead of time and got screened by email and by voice (telephone) the week before. The day of our meeting, I called early to confirm and she asked me for more personal info (that I couldn't do anyway as I was already in transit). "But you already screened and approved me (reviews, Date Check, references, etc.) earlier this week. We spoke on the phone." She said, "That wasn't me. That was my mother."
.
Mom screwed up and hadn't sent her approval.

I've dealt with some really terrific bookers who really made everything easy and really enhanced the experience of setting everything up.

I have also dealt with one or two who were just terrible.

Obviously a high volume girl is devoting the hours to customer service.  A booker makes sense for the back office work.  But a low volume provider is best doing her own booking.   Saves money and she has the time.
