Get all your money out of the bank and head for St. Barths, where Xmas Eve means drinking all night (and mean all) and New Year's, well, I dunno, New Year's is for the really strong, dancing in the streets all night, the bands quit at 8 a.m. We're really serious about New Year's.  You'll never be the same.

Well, Siobhan, you could put a string of colored lights and perhaps a splash of tinsel on the filao, and maybe learn some local carols. It's a bit late to start infusing your own jug of the traditional Christmas shrubb, but perhaps you can pick some up somewhere around town, for entertaining.  You might treat yourself to local Christmas culinary specialities, like pork roast with Angola peas, or boudin creole.  Oh, the Fete du Rhum is being held 12/17/06, at the St. James Museum and Distillery (what a civilized combination).  Personally, I wouldn't miss Midnight Mass at a parish with a good choir, but then I'm a Catholic, for me it's all about the Midnight Mass.  

I hope and trust you are happy in your new digs, and that your academic pursuits are flourishing.  The TER National Board just hasn't been as fun since you took your [French?] leave and deserted us for sunnier climes and greater things.  Your vivacity and perspicacity have been sorely missed.  I'm sure you're working very hard there, Siobhan,  and aren't wallowing in idleness, but I think I can be forgiven for sharing with you in my imagination an idealized idyllic Antillean scene of leisure on the beach, with all the approved accouterments: hammock, shady palms, rhum paille with a lemonade chaser, what have you. A very Merry Christmas to you, and a happy New Year.
