I about busted a gut on a plane a few days ago, reading the new issue of Car and Driver. Near the back of the mag was an article about the current head of the NHTSA, and under her pic was the one-word caption, RILF.
...that you're actually referring to instead of the web article that you linked, then maybe we could bust a gut, too. Although, I kinda doubt it. I think we all have the "ILF" part figured out, and somehow I doubt the gut will bust when you plug in the "R".
The NHTSA is the division of the Transportation Department that regulates cars, among other things. The lady in question is the administrator of that board, and I think we can agree she is attractive, therefore, the Regulator I would Like to Fuck.
Now, for the sarcastic fellow, what makes it funny is the creative use of an obscene acronym, usually only associated with porn and sex sites, in a mainstream magazine. Of course, if one has to have a joke explained to him, its not going to be funny, as the need to have it explained is evidence of one's own limitations.
I couldn't find the aricle on-line, so I linked to the lady's pic instead as my visual aid.
And I take the comment about my sense of humor being out of the mainstream as a compliment. However, if you all were to see the original article, pic, and caption, in the context of a mainstream car magazine, I'm certain most of you would both "get it," and laugh as I did.
...I knew Dickus had prabably pegged it with "Regulator"! And I pretty much understood where you were coming from despite the article not being linked. I just didn't find it all that funny. Perhaps, I would have if I'd seen the article that you did? Who knows. I'm still curious though about that caption. Obviously, the article's caption "RILF" isn't intended to mean "Regulator I'd Like to Fuck". So what were they using it to mean?
