i think it's relatively common knowledge that smoking is a serious faux pas during session.  it's stinky, it lingers in the air, it makes your fingers, lips, breath, and clothing smell bad, etc. etc.  this has been well established at this point.

out of curiosity, though, would you find yourself offended if a provider puffed on an electronic cigarette during session downtime (not during playtime, obviously)?  it's water vapor, not smoke -- if it does have any scent, it's very light, and smells nothing like cigarettes; and it does not have any of the aforementioned negative effects that cigarette smoke does.

i'm trying to quit smoking with the use of an electronic cigarette, which so far has been working out fabulously, for the most part.  i've never been the type to smoke during session; but with the e-cig, i find that rather than going through bursts of chainsmoking, i tend to quietly and slowly nurse it throughout the day.  i find it especially helpful when meeting someone new, as i tend to get very nervous, and having something innocuous to do with my hands and mouth (save the jokes :p is very helpful.

just curious to hear your thoughts.

who do smoke.  As I have now created a Pavlovian link from smoke to sex, it's all I can do now to avoid becoming a smoker!

That said, I would find the use of the electronic cigarette to be more desirable, and would not have any problem with a smoker who used same.  For one thing, it would avoid the somewhat clunky maneuver of having to leave a room during an extended session to take cigarette breaks.

Do be aware however, some recent articles about these electronic cigarettes state that the vapor you inhale from them contains just as many and perhaps even more toxins than standard cigarettes.

One person very near and dear to me swears by the all natural cigarettes (American Spirits) as they do not add any chemicals to the tobacco and therefore do not have the same deleterious effects on the body as standard brands do.

Chicago has enacted laws against using e-cigs indoors (same laws that apply to tobacco).

No reason to bring a spotlight on yourself if you need to smoke...in either form.

As for areas that don't have this law (yet), I would think that those who find any type of smoking disgusting you may want to consider your patrons health.  The reasons that Chicago has outlawed e-cig smoking seems to revolve around how little is really known about the health issues.  So the lawmakers take the high (pun intended) road on the issue.

i smoke my e-cig everywhere and have done so without issue in the lobbies of various hotels, on trains, in restaurants, etc.  most people i've encountered - in any context - seem to find it totally inoffensive.  i'm very surprised to see that the opposite seems to be the case here!  it's good to know. :-)

I prefer longer dates and I'd rather have the gal I'm with feeling good than getting cranky for lack of a smoke

I have absolutely no problem with e-cigs. They're a great invention.  I was so accustomed to smoking between sexual bouts that it would now probably actually be appealing to me just for the visual.

I spent years trying to get the cigarette smell out of my things, either by cleaning or by throwing them away. I can't see a provider who smokes during a session. But I don't understand the problem people have with e-cigs.

it before. I really don't like smoking during the session, even on breaks. Mainly due to the smell. I have never kissed someone who was using an e-cig (that I know of, maybe they are that good) before. I don't think the e-cig would bug me as long as it didn't smell funky.

I think the FDA is currently reconsidering their position on e-cigs.  They are currently not regulated like tobacco but they contain nicotine (the addicting and toxic component) so they might become classified as cigarettes or tobacco products which I think means that current "No Smoking" signs and bans (hotel rooms, airplanes) will apply, as well.

Big Tobacco is lobbying to keep e-cigs UNregulated, so that tells you something right there.

[Katie - you never replied to my emails or PM. :-(

it's very important to me that i am able to be clear-headed and fully in control of all of my faculties during these times; not out of mistrust towards my clients or anything, it's simply a standard to which i hold myself.  even in my personal life, it's very rare for me to use intoxicants.

a knee-jerk reaction that is not based on any empirical data.

The primary argument that non-smokers take, when objecting to smoking tobacco, is that second-hand tobacco smoke is harmful to *them*. BUT there is no second-hand smoke from an e-cig. What looks (almost exactly) like smoke is nothing more than water vapor. Stand outside and exhale on a cold day. Same thing.

Is an e-cig harmful to the person using it? Maybe. I'm still waiting for any kind of actual factual data.  Do some e-cigs use  diethylene glycol, which is found in antifreeze? Yep. Then again, diethylene glycol is also used pharmaceuticals, soaps, deodorants, even food.

OTOH some e-cigs use Vegetable Glycerin.  The list of existing products that utilize vegetable glycerin is too long to list here.

Another reason given for banning e-cigs is that "it looks too much like actually smoking". Now---these people need to get the fuck over themselves.

You should really read up on Propylene Glycol. I can assure you that what you're "vaping." on isn't "water." but often times a mixture of substances. Propylene Glycol is generally regarded as safe, however there are studies about it affecting airways in everyday application.
