to confirm? It's the professional thing to do.

Hobbyists ( Or, for that matter,providers ), should do the same thing.

I normally send an e-mail the morning of (late night if early appt.) to make sure said appt. is a go. Since my e-mail triggers a response to my phone, I'll know if said provider has run into a problem or needs to make changes, etc. The last call I make is when I am in the parking lot 5 to 10 minutes before the appt. to get the particulars. I have a 98% positive experience with this method. The other 2% were with providers whose MO is chicanery and BS. Providers that require you to call a day ahead are full of themselves and if anything, they should request permission to call you a day ahead or use e-mail to confirm. You are an hour away and you don't leave because you've not heard from her is bad business. It would say to me you are full of shit. On the other hand, the onus is on the provider to make contact if there are problems so I get your point on one hand, but on the other, I think you should up your standards to providers who treat this as a business and you'll not have these issues. Most providers know your time is valuable and will make every effort to not have you drive an hour and waste your time. If this is a recurring act, then I submit you are bottom fishing.

I always thought that the default for confirmation calls was 1h prior to the appointment time unless asked differently. Recently I have called 1h before to be told I didn't call the day before so the provider thought I had canceled, or I call and she doesn't pick up and then calls back 30m-1h later asking if I am on my way. In general I am usually a 1h minimum from a provider's location, so if I get no reply or callback I don't leave the house. Thoughts?

Every lady has her method, as does every guy. That should be agreed upon before appointment day, if it isn't spelled out clearly on her website, and probably even if it is.

Being clear, specific and detail-oriented about communication isn't forbidden, unlike discussion of sex acts ahead of time. So make sure you are on the same page by taking care of them in advance.

Relying on a "default" is an assumption waiting to go wrong.

confirmation call the morning of the appointment, otherwise I take it to mean you've canceled and proceed with other plans. This is in my etiquette section; in fact, it's the very first thing on it.

I don't call to find out if the client is on their way, but clients have gone out of their way to let me know they are.

I do call to let them know that I'm on my way.

For new friends, I much prefer the confirmation call the day before and then I always ask the client to call me when he heads in my direction. I work full time and schedule play around work. If I don't hear from you the day before I plan my day.. Also, I hesitant to leave work to head for play if I have not heard from you.. NOW. after all of that. IF we have a great on going relationship  and I know you are consistant, I agree with you just call me 1 hour prior I will be there, HOT and READY!

How long ago was it set up?  I've had sessions arranged 3 months ahead because of travel and I'll always confirm those a day or two before.  If' either of us is traveling a long way I'll especially confirm a day ahead.

But if I've made the appointment one evening for a time the next day I don't even see the need to confirm at all unless she's specifically asked for a confirmation.  I figure if something does happen in that one day we can call.  I know there's NCNSs on both sides so if she wants a call I'll do it.

From what I've seen there is no generally agreed upon time to automaticly confirm.  If either side has a specific time line that's important for their logistics they need to make it clear at the time the apointment is arranged.

These were appointments made less than one week in advance and I usually (not always I admit) follow up with an e-mail that states I will call 1h (as I'm 1h away) in advance to confirm unless the lady would prefer otherwise. On rare occasions I will text. I'd rather call in advance than arrive at a hotel after a longish drive and have NS. Most of the providers I have seen request 1h so I've got into the habit.
