In this case I wish Texas wouldn't execute the guy.  I think he should get misery for life-- along with the mother (who turned state's evidence).

And a Pulitzer prize for the composite artist-- who's picture of the little girl reconstructed from a skeleton broke the case.

I did cry when I was reading the story today and I can only imagine how this little girl suffered.

For those that harm children.  What sort of animals would do that to a little girl?  How disgusting. Let them into general population and they'll get the punishment they deserve.

Melanie

That's why they often add special circumstances to murder convictions.

...maybe 50 years of cleaning crap out of AIDS walk-a-thon portapotties with their tongue.  Or execution.  I'm pro-choice.

...when someone like this comes in, they used to (before the ACLU got involved and Aids became so prevelant) assign prisoners like this to be "cellmates" with large (i.e. ex football types) gay prisoners, then just look the other way when these type criminals were used for their pleasure for the rest of their lives.

Legally they can be charged with capital murder and yes in TX that is the death penalty....

They have special treatment in prison for those that harm children.....

It was heartbreaking to watch all of it in the news here in Cleveland...last week when they first broke the news it may be Riley the news anchors were even having a hard time staying composed.

Anyone who can hurt a child or stand by and watch is just pure evil....

...only after they water board 'em.  During taser gun practice.  But that's just me.  And Texas.  God bless Texas.

Especially for what was done to that little girl.  Made me cry just reading some of the details and looking at that little girls face, and it wasn't my child....They did this to not only a person, but a child, and their own child.
I will never understand the motivations of some people.  Sometimes you can't even express in words how much people suck...Those Parents make me sick.

and I was on the verge of tears. I don't know why but for some reason this one hit me harder than so many of the other stories we've heard in the past of the sick, twisted fuckers doing stuff like this to kids. Maybe it's because her own parents did it to her that made it extra twisted.

There's so many families out there looking to adopt, why not just hand the child over rather do this to her.

Adorable little girl too...such a shame.

It's stories like this that makes me thankful for states like TX that still practice the death penalty.

...I don't see a lot of anti-death penalty people chiming in.  Lets just hope they are lubed up real good when they do.

about children.  I worship the ground my 3 kids and 4 grandkids walk on.  And I'm always saying "hi" and smiling at kids when I'm out and around.

I am against religion and politics on this board so all I'll say is "Texas, do your thing."

May she be with the special Angels.

It was an adorable little girl. Not only did they brutalize her before they killed her, but afterward they put her body out in the shed for two months and went on with their lives. As an afterthought, they put her in a box and dumped her in the water. It just violates any humanity in parent/child bonds.

If we could be as certain in every case as we are in this one of who did it, no one would oppose the death penalty.  But if an innocent person is put to death by the government, as a result of false evidence or other mistakes, and as has happened many times in the good old USA, would that make everyone sick to their stomachs too?  Think about it.

...lets pray that our noticably absent anti-death-penalty friends are OK.

I hate to think their Prius broke down on the way home from quota work.    Or the lead paint from their Easy Bake ovens has them hospialized without national health care.  Or how George Bush crapped in their whole grain cereal this morning.  The possibilities are endless when you are a victim forever and all the real victims are inconvenient truths.

Maybe once the gobal warming crisis is over they will turn their attention to gobal cooling and gobal just right.  I can't wait!  Bad ozone, bad!

Please thrill us with your justification for letting child murders live, anti-death penalty people.  C'mon, you know you want to broadcast your intellect to us simpletons.  Perhaps another reminder of Darwin's only the strong survives.   What a great guy, that Darwin.

I will never understand how "cruelty" can have any place in a discussion regarding someone who has made one or more people suffer so much.

People like this pass judgment on themselves. Crazy or not, they have no place in this society and should not be housed for life.

They knock a cow in the head in a slaughterhouse so the animal won't feel a thing. Usually, it seems to work, but nothing is fool proof.

As I said, thirty to forty in misery for this case. I'm an atheist, so if they're dead and they don't go to hell it ruins the opportunity. Yet, it's so hard not to murder them on the spot.

I got to say I'm curious as to what possibly could have turned them to do this to a child. I know even after I find out it's not going to make sense. Something like bed-wetting or crying too loud all the time.

I've compared serial rapists/murderers of children to rabid dogs, and for that reason alone they need they need to be put down. Despite that pragmatic justification, it's again too hard to not kill them on the spot.

Not to hijack your post, but I have another set of candidates for summary execution, those who lead the police on freeway chases endangering so many innocents.  When caught, a few summary executions would put an end to this thug sport.

I always have been a proponent of the death penalty. My question to you is why are you so concerned about people who aren't? You have 3 posts in this thread questioning/wondering where the people are that don't think the death penalty is a good thing.

It is almost as if you are daring anyone to come out on this thread to say anything against corporal punishment. Are you just laying in wait to jump all over them and call them names or something? "Moby concert", "hope they are lubed up real good" (presumably so you can jump on/in their ass), and of course your second mention was such a large political post covering everything from lead paint to global warming.

This was a tragedy of the utmost and you are trying very hard to turn it into a political debate of any kind. I, for one, am so very sorry another human being had to endure what this little girl did and agree that anyone who does this type of thing does not deserve to live any longer. But to try to start arguements over this is reprehensible.

My objections to the death penalty are due to the potential for errors and the discriminatory manner in which it is applied.  (Aside of government playing God.)

Here I have no big issue.  These two are begging for the death penalty.  Who am I to argue?

BUT
As someone who does not believe in Hell, I believe that the death penalty is be too easy an out for such individuals... they should be made to live in the general prison population for the rest of their lives (alas, where they wouldn't survive, receiving the type of "care" they gave to this beautiful little girl...)   THEN karma can catch up to them in the next go-round.

.02
There.  I really let you have it, eh?
What, are you itching for a political debate?  You're on the wrong board for that.

this crime.  How would you punish an animal that does this to an innocent?  Death?  yea.  fits cause the animal that did this is broken... and cannot be fixed.
