OK, OK, before you dismiss this article as just one of many arguing for legalization of the hobby, hear me out.  Out of all the opinion columns arguing for the legalization of the hobby, this one might be the best I've read.  Also, I've read Laurence Vance's columns for years, and he makes no secret that he is a theologically conservative born-again Christian, so this support for the legalization of the hobby is coming from an unlikely source.

The article is not that long, and I think you'll enjoy it.

say, I support women's right to rent out their bodies, and men's right to hire them for hour or two...

Nice article, but wish he would have gone a step farther than he did.... I guess when you bring religion in the mix, you can't really..

An interesting read, nonetheless.

prostitution.   I wonder what his motivation is?  I hear read more personal emotion than one of analysis defending a human right.   Well, that's just a quick take on it.

Maybe he thinks that prostitution should be legal, but regulated - which is the general concept of legalization.  He did offer the examples of strip clubs, porn, and gambling as immoral activities which are free from government interference "as long as certain guidelines are followed".  If that is the case, it would be inconsistent with the libertarian philosophy of which he speaks.  More likely I think is that he simply isn't applying the philosophy to it's logical conclusion because it hasn't occurred to him to do so.  I wonder what his thoughts are in regards to the drug war.

I don't support legalization of prostitution, I support decriminalization - just as I support decrim of drugs.

However, the article was overall pretty good.  Anything that espouses the non-aggression principle gets a gold star from me.

Vance has basically the same position on drugs that he has on this hobby.  He wouldn't use them himself, but he is against drugs being illegal.  In fact, I have a book of his called "The War on drugs is a war on freedom. "  I haven't read it yet, but it looks really good.

Concerning libertarian philosophy, there are different degrees of libertarianism.  A 100% hardcore libertarian position would be that the hobby should be legal with no regulations at all.  A lighter libertarian position would be that it should be legal with a few government regulations to protect the people who participate in it.  After all, the view that one of the few roles of a very limited government is to protect its citizens is foundational to libertarianism.

absolutely....libertarianism runs the spectrum from minarchist to anarchist.  I'm on the more extreme end of it and think that any legitimate role of government can be provided better and more efficiently by independent agencies competing on a free market :)
