I just learned that there was a big bust on providers in my area. It seemed to be directed to CL'd providers, with particular interest in human trafficing. The news article had a map of the locations raided, and one was very close to one person that I know. I'd like to email her and see if she is OK. MY question is, can my email address be traced back to me, if I do?

The answer is yes, but would it be worth it to anyone to track it down? Your e-mail has an IP address associated with it. Your ISP knows who had what IP address at any given point in time so they would have to give up that information. Some ISPs may require a court request, some may not.

If she was an independent, in all likelihood their was not a possibility of human trafficking going on so I wouldn't worry about it.

Its probably an agency but BY ALL MEANS CONTACT HER TO MAKE SURE SHE IS OK.
It is very hard to track via free email accounts - it is much easier to track via a fixed (home or office)) IP address.
So use a public pc (kinkos or hotel) or a public WIFI if you would rather be safe than sorry.

Can an e-mail address be traced back? Yes, as the posts above stated. As for e-mailing someone who was located close to one of the places raided, unless they were involved in those, why would you be more concerned about LE tracing your e-mail than you would otherwise? The odds that they would go through that much additional work after a CL sting seem pretty long even if your friend was nabbed...

They used their typical sleazy tactics of threatening the girl with all sorts of legal nightmares, including taking her child, then offering her some sort of deal if she'd roll on her clients. Unfortunately, she believed them and two or three guys got nabbed. They weren't regulars, however, which is why they didn't realize they were talking with someone else (a police bitch). Needless to say, it was the end of her days as a provider. She hung around for a little while, but nobody would see her after that episode.
Now, I'll admit, that's going to a lot of effort on LE's part, and we all know they prefer to pick the low-hanging fruit. But you can't count on that. If they're motivated, they'll do whatever they want to do to achieve their objectives.
They are sleazy. I agree, they do awful things to girls that most people do not hear about. I realize she was scared but no need to pull an Adriana (Sopranos). We all know what happened to her. They'd just have to haul me in and talk to my lawyer.
I'm not technical but what about a service that doesn't display the header?

I didn't say they wouldn't do that, but their motivation for doing so must have gone further. Did they confiscate vehicles or cash? Nailing several dudes for playing would not seem to be worth the effort in itself, but if they can grab/steal a few 30K+ vehicles, and auction them off, different story...especially if the pigs get a cut of the action. And they wonder why we chear when we hear new stories when shootings occur...it's called cynicism with gov't. in general, going after the hobby with gusto, while allowing real criminals to kill, maim, rape and rob all the while saying "What do you want us to do about it?"...

you have chosen to engage in an activity that is against the law. plain and simple. police are supposed to enforce the law. plain and simple. don't like the law? get it changed. but enforcing the law is their job.
i suppose its also the cop's fault when you get a ticket for parking in a handicapped spot you didn't need.

The girls get busted for prostitution. There cell phones, any computers, or other electronic equipment is then seized.
If its the second offense the ladys sometimes feel they have no choice than to turn over states evidence and to work with law enforcement or risk the possibility of spending a significant time in jail.
Appointments are then set up and hobbyists are then arrested.
With so many providers and hobbyists busted on the site, I wonder why people still use craigslist erotic services.

providers shouldn't keep client info on their cell phones, computers, or any other electronic devices that can be easily seized. LE may go after the easy busts most of the time but it doesn't mean they won't go for a bunch of busts once they find that wealth of info on a provider's equipment. I'd hope providers are as concerned about their client's safety as they are about their own. If this girl didn't save client info, they'd have nothing to threaten her with, would they?
Perhaps, but I can't even remember seeing one in my area. The phone company has been pretty busy getting rid of them.
