END OF MESSAGE

All this talk about movies....sends me to my love of music.  I get so moved by a passionate song.  Singing something with passion is so emotive.

Here are my two ultimate passionate images in song:

#1:  "Looking hard into your eyes, there was nobody I'd ever known.  Such an empty suprise to feel so alone" -Jackson Browne, Late For the Sky

Not a bad way to describe falling out of love, wouldn't you say?

#2:  "Well, baby, there you stand.  With your little head down in your hands.  Oh, my God, you can't believe it's happening again.  Your baby's gone and you're all alone....and it looks like the end."  -Eagles, Wasted Time

Nothing sadder than a heartbroken woman in despair.  Reduces me to a pile of teary-eyed, sensitive man every time.

Come on gang.  Give me your favs.  -jacksonlips

How about Rage against the machine's 'Bullet In The Head' or 'Killing In The Name'?

Both great songs to make love to! Especially if you can time your climax to the lyrics!

The Pass - Written by Neil Peart
Performed by Rush

Proud swagger out of the schoolyard,
Waiting for the world's applause,
Rebel without a conscience,
Martyr without a cause.

Static on your Frequency,
Electrical Storm in your veins,
Raging at unreachable glory,
Straining at invisible chains.

And now you're trembling on a rocky ledge,
Staring down into a heartless sea,
You can't face life on the razor's edge,
Nothing's what you thought it would be.

All of us get lost in the darkness,
dreamers try to look for the stars.
All of us do time in the gutter,
dreamers turn to look at the cars,
Turn around and walk the razor's edge.
Turn around and walk the razor's edge.

Don't turn your back and slam the door on me.

Layla, ya got me on my knees

I'm begging darling please

Darling won't you ease my worried mind.........

Slow Hand

In my opinion, one of the most passionate and romantic songs out there:

Here With Me by Dido

I didn't hear you leave,
I wonder how am I still here
I don't want to move a thing,
It might change my memory

Oh I am what I am,
I'll do what I want, but I can't hide
I won't go, I won't sleep,
I can't breathe, until you're resting here with me
I won't leave, I can't hide,
I cannot be, until you're resting here with me

I don't want to call my friends,
They might wake me from this dream
And I can't leave this bed,
Risk forgetting all that's been

Oh I am what I am,
I'll do what I want, but I can't hide
I won't go, I won't sleep,
I can't breathe, until you're resting here with me
I won't leave, I can't hide,
I cannot be, until you're resting here with me

Read it,

and I actually started thinking of Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce.

Ferangi,  all your choices of songs were great ... BUT, you hit the nail on the head with Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle ...  here is to you!

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
Till Eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

LOVER'S CONCERTO
The Toys
(Denny Randell/Sandy Linzert)

How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow,
Birds high up the trees
Serenade the clouds with their melodies

Oh, see there beyond the hill,
The bright colors of the rainbow.
Some magic from above
Made this day for us just to fall in love

Now, I belong to you
From this day until forever,
Just love me tenderly
And I'll give to you every part of me.

Oh, don't ever make me cry
Through long lonely nights without us.
Be always true to me,
Keep this day in your heart eternally.

One day we shall return
To this place upon the meadow.
We'll walk out in the rain,
See the birds above singing once again

Oh, you hold me in your arms,
And say once again you love me,
And if your love is true,
Everything will be just as wonderful.

You'll hold me in your arms,
And say once again you'll love me,
And if your love is true,
Everything will be just as wonderful.

Came out in 1990, from the CD "Bloodletting." What made the lyrics so passionate was the voice of lead singer Johnette Napolitano.  Now she could sing!

Joey, bady, don't get, crazy
Detours, fences
I get, defensive

I know you've heard it all before
So I don't say it any more
I just stand by and watch you fight your secret war

Although I used to wonder why
I used to cry 'till I was dry
Still sometimes I get a strange pain inside
Oh, Joey, if you're hurtin' so am I

Joey, honey, I got some money
All is, forgiven
Listen, listen

And if I seem to be confused
I didn't mean to be with you
And when you said I scared you well I guess you scared me too

But if it's love your looking for
Then I can give a little more
And if you're somewhere drunk and passed out passed out on the floor

Joey, I'm not angry any more

Wilco - I am trying to break your heart
Album:  Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
----------------------------------

I am an American aquarium drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you?

Let's forget about the tongue-tied lightning
Let's undress just like cross-eyed strangers
This is not a joke, so please stop smiling
What was I thinking when I said it didn't hurt?

I want to glide through those brown eyes dreaming
Take it from the inside, baby hold on tight
You were so right when you said that I've been drinking
What was I thinking when we said good night?

I want to hold you in the Bible-black predawn
You're quite a quiet domino, bury me now
Take off your Band-Aid because I don't believe in touchdowns
What was I thinking when I said hello?

I'd always thought that if I held you tightly
You'd always love me like you did back then
Then I fell asleep and the city kept blinking
What was I thinking when I let you back in?

I am trying to break your heart
I am trying to break your heart
But still I'd be lying if I said it wasn't easy
I am trying to break your heart

Disposable Dixie-cup drinking
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you?

Maybe after a few glasses of wine, I'll sing it to you..

:)

Sing to me?  Wow!!  How are you going be able to sing with all that sex going on?  LOL.

Once, not too long ago, after a particularly satisfying encounter, a provider actually sang a poem to me that she wrote.  Sounds a bit corney, but by the end she had me in the palm of her hands.  It was just beautiful and so is she.

See you soon.........

Meat Loaf:

I want you,
I need you,
But there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you.

But don't be sad,
Cause two out of three ain't bad.

There are many I suppose but two probably stand out most in my mind.  "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack..sexy lyrics & sang by a gal with such a sultry voice.  "Unchained Melody" Bobby Hatfield's version, not the original..not so much the words, but the emotion he sings them with, & it's a very sensuos melody if you're moved to dance real slow & close.

Also one from Bread that used to choke me up called Diarey?

I don't recall the song from Bread that you mention, but my own favorite from Whitney, at least in the love-song category, was probably (I may have the title incorrect) "All the Man I Need"  Actually the first time I ever heard Whitney was when she did a duet with Teddy Pendergrass on one of his albums.."Hold Me" was the song--no idea in the world who she was, but apparently others took the same notice as I did & she hit the big-time soon after (all in the pre-Bobby Brown days).  But damn...there are so very many others that I've really liked, a lot of them from the 70s or 80s, a few even from the 60s.  Another that used to just makes me ache to have a sweet thing in my arms actually was a real oldie by the time I ever heard it...an instrumental only with a steel guitar featured.  Ever hear "Sleepwalk" by Santo & Johnny?

Something like this..

I found her diary just the other day..
And started reading about me...
The words she written took me by surprise..
You never saw them in her eyes...
They said that the love she found

I don't remember all the lyrics, but at the end of the song the storyteller releases that the love the girl had found was for someone else not him... and he wishes her all the best in life..

Very sad beautiful song...

Sorry to nitpick and Whitney is a great singer, but does she have the brains to write a song?

WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN (Percy Sledge)

When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothin' else
He'd trade the world
For a good thing he's found
If she is bad, he can't see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he puts her down

When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Trying to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comforts
And sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way
It ought to be

When a man loves a woman
I give you everything I've got (yeah)
Trying to hold on
To your precious love
Baby please don't treat me bad

When a man loves a woman
Deep down in his soul
She can bring him such misery
If she is playing him for a fool
He's the last one to know
Loving eyes can never see

Yes when a man loves a woman
I now exactly how he feels
'Cause baby, baby, baby
I am a man
When a man loves a woman

I think this thread is good, and I certainly have written down some of these and know what to play when I want the clothes to come off.. hell I am stripping to some of these tunes by myself..

But.. I think by just focusing on love songs, we are limiting our discussion. Many of the most passionate songs are about grief, regret, unrequited love, dispair... etc..

It would be interesting to see  some of those up here..

OK Ferangi, now you have become my mentor and spiritual leader!  I wanted to post Green Fields to being with, it is a sad song, not a passionate one ... many have sang it ... all beautiful ...

GREEN FIELDS

Lyrics by- Terry Gilkyson, Rich Dehr & Frank Miller

Once there were green fields kissed by the sun,
once there were valleys where rivers used to run ,
once there were blue skies with white clouds high above.
Once they were part of an everlasting love.
We were the lovers who strolled thru green fields.

Green fields are gone now, parched by the sun,
gone from the valleys where rivers used to run.
Gone with the cold wind that swept into my heart ,
gone with the lovers who let their dreams depart.
Where are the green fields that we used to roam?

I'll never know what made you run away.
How can I keep searching when dark clouds hide the day?
I only know there's nothing left for me,
nothing in this wide world left for me to see.

But I'll keep on waiting ti1 you return,
I'll keep on waiting unti1 the day you learn
you can't be happy while your heart's on the roam,
you can't be happy unti1 you bring it home,
home to the green fields and me once again,
home to the green fields and me once again.

I think it is very passionate. I always find those songs where someone is lonely or rejected or better yet, unfullfilled love, as those songs that have the most passion and burn... They are longing, and I think they touch all of us more strongly.. Just an opinion...

Remember such songs as

Ooh..ooh Baby Baby...
Still I look for a reason to believe
How to mend a broken Heart..
Hello its Me..

I can't think.. there are so many and I don't have the examples of what I described above.. But you get the idea..

Green Field was recorded by Vogue and Brothers Four.  But, the first time I heard it, was in Germany, by a German singer!  I don't know his name, but when I came back to the U.S. found other versions!

Singing to his young son who died from falling through a screened window in a high rise apartment.

Reading this thread has reminded me of so many songs that I'd really liked but long forgotten about that it's brought back some memories for me.  I do now recall the song by Bread that you mentioned, & "When a Man Loves a Woman" (I believe it was BILLKILE who posted that one) is another personal favorite. And as long as you've brought the P. Cline song up..how about "From This Moment"--either Shania Twain or Faith Hill, can't remember who recorded it & "I Owe You" (don't remember the artist on that one either).  There are so many great songs mentioned here..maybe it might be a good idea for them to all be assembled in a CD package & put up for sale--I'd sure as hell buy it.

You're right about many passionate songs being about feelings of sorrow of some nature..in fact many love songs are.  So here are a few in that vein: "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", "Memories", "Midnight Blue"--Melissa Manchester, "You Don't Bring Me Flowers"--Neil Diamond witout Striesand, "You Let the Rain In"--Neil Diamond, "We've Got Tonight"--Bob Seger, "The Hungry Years"--Rita Coolidge.  And while of a different nature, how About "Danny Boy?"  I never really thought much about that song at all until I discovered it was the story of a father whose song was leaving to fight in the First World War..the words took on a whole new meaning then.

Let's Get Drunk & Screw By Jimmy Buffet LOL!

Nobody feels any pain
Tonight as I stand inside the rain
Everybody knows
That Baby's got new clothes
But lately I  see her ribbons and her bows
Have fallen from her curls

She takes just like a woman yes she does

She makes love just like a woman yes she does

And she aches just like a woman

But she breaks just like a little girl.

Queen Mary, she's my friend.
Yes I believe I'll go see her again.
Noboby has to guess
That baby can't be blessed,
'Till she sees finally that she's like all the rest.
With her fog, her amphetamines, and her pearls

It was raining from the first

And I was dying of thirst

So I came in here

And your long time curse hurts

But whats worse is this pain in here

I can't stay in here, ain't it clear that..

I just can't fit.
Yes I believe it's time for us to quit.
And when we meet again,
Introduced as friends,
Please don't let on that you knew me when,
I was hungry, and it was your world.
