Pre-paid visa does not "always work!." Some prepaid visas work. Many don't. There have been tons of posts on this board and the newbie board regarding that.

Sometimes I like to switch things up and go with prepaid visa cards.
You just have to know where to buy them.

So any bank you can buy a prepaid gift card or my favorite is greendot prepaid visa cards.
I think you and Roxanne are both right.
If you buy a prepaid Visa card at the right place.
Then a person should have no problems.
You see problem solved.

I am assuming that most of us are in the US trying to pay for TER which is a non-US (overseas) payment.

Did you have to register that greendot with a real name, real address and real SSN?

The problem with most prepaids is that Homeland Security and Treasury don't want cash moved overseas to terrorist organizations or TERorist organizations or to hide money in foreign accounts so anonymous prepaids don't work.

I used to use prepaids for TER until they stopped working. If you read the fine print, most of them now say "US Domestic purchases only" or "Not good for Int'l transactions."  I think that applies even if you register that card with legit info. You can't even call up customer service and say, "Send them my money!"  

If you use a non-restricted card, it probably requires legit registration and most people are trying to avoid leaving a paper trail like that.  Most of the drugstore, big box, convenience store prepaids do allow anonymous int'l transactions

I never had to give my name, address or SSN to a cash register at the store.
When buying a green dot prepaid credit card.

It was just a matter of giving them the cash and them loading the money on there.
Also the cards I used to buy had a refence number that would identify the card.
So when I went back to the store put more money on it.
They would get that number and that is how they reloaded my in the past.

I don't know how it works online but that is how I did it at the store!
All the other stuff you mention was not my experience!

If you are in the US and have recently purchased a truly anonymous prepaid card, that you then successfully used for a ter membership, I personally would like details on where you got the card and the brand of card.  Unless US law changed recently, I don't think this is possible.

TER has an option of letting you pay for membership using a gift card from select stores. So drop by Starbucks and purchase a gift card. That's how I paid for mine!

Akimbo Card. It's a pre-paid mastercard. There is no monthly fee. You can send money instantly to other Akimbo Card members through the web portal or phone app. You can order a sub-cards for someone you know (or perhaps order one with your fake provider name on it)
I'm pretty sure I've used the card to pay for TER membership before. I used the card earlier this year to purchase my preferred411.com lifetime membership given the amount spent and being an international purchase. Right afterwards I received an automated phone call asking to press digit # to confirm that I made this purchase to so and so; and that was it.
If there is no activity on your account after one year there is an inactivity fee.
If I recall correctly I did have to enter my last 4 digits of my ssn. I believe the ssn part has to do with the patriot act. The bad thing about this that the card is not totally anonymous whatsoever. However to me the card does have some neat features.
