Seriously! They were great in like 2000 when they came out but why in the hell are people still using them! It's like my father who hung on to Betamax all through the 90's thinking it would somehow gain popularity again!!!!!!

Done with rant...

If you're relying on a Blackberry to communicate today, be advised that RIM has encountered a major service interuption that began in Europe and Asia earlier this week and spread to North American today.  It affects email and browser usage.  The latest email I received on my hobby account was delayed by an hour.

As proven by this latest outage! BB or RIM devices are dependant on the third party Blackberry service which is the same POS it was 6 or 7 years ago. It is aged techology that not comapny in this century should be utilizing!

What is "trusted" about it I have no idea... I think you are greatly mistaken if you think the BB is of value any longer!

Businesses have dedicated blackberry email servers. RIM have their own infrastructure and it's reputed to be very secure.

The iPhone has no keyboard and the battery on most android phones don't stand up to a full day's work. Also, greater flexibility equals more unsupported applications and uses. For a company that is trying to keep IT costs reasonable, a fleet of BB phones is much easier to manage, police and support.

Go to any trade show or professional meeting and many of the road warriors still carry their trusted blackberries.

Most businesses are moving to iPad. They can do more and exec's don't have to carry a PC Gadget they baerly use.

I don't own a BB and never will. They may well die out over the next few years but they are still currently being used by business, your own religious devotion to Steve Jobs notwithstanding.

PS Why do you have to be a dick about it?

You asked who uses them, I told you who uses them. You might think that unfair for some reason the fact remains that they are currently still in fairly wide use in the outside sales and marketing communities. The reasons might be outdated, the reputation may be undeserved, I don't know.

Personally, I'm not that emotionally invested in what devices people use to send their emails on. Perhaps we'd have a better market place for mobile devices if people calmed down with this ridiculously over the top version of brand loyalty. It's a phone, not a sacred idol.
