How To Hobby With Very Little $$$

GUYS HEAR ME OUT ON THIS

My original thesis for the Hobby Lottery was mathematically sound.  What I failed to realize was I had the order of the market participants inverted (rest assured that is now fixed).  The Provider was originally at the center of the transaction so to speak.  That was wrong (dead wrong).  The Hobbyist should be at the center!!!!!!!

While sitting in my bathtub reading a great book "Freaks of Fortune" by Jonathan Levy I had the Eureka moment.  I will not bore you with how I came upon this but in a nutshell.  The modern insurance industry was founded on this concept.  So trust me it is mathematically PROVEN.  The only thing to be determined is the trusted depository person of the funds and "picker" of the random element.  These two roles could be filled by the same person or separated as to ensure impartiality in the process.

Here it goes:

How To Hobby With Very Little $$$

*  A fixed (or open) number of Hobbyists contribute a fixed (or open) amount of funds totaling $300 (or $400).  For example 10 Hobbyists contribute $30 each.  Total amount is $300 - enough to get 1 date.  For purposes of this conversation we will exclude analysis of the open concept.  It involves minutiae that could confuse the analysis.

*  The funds are transferred to an electronic account.  Each participant then emails a random # guess between 1-1,000.  The "picker" randomly picks a number between 1-1,000.  The Hobbyist closest to the number wins the pool.

*  Funds then transferred to said Hobbyist.  Enjoy!!

The original concept I had about Hobby Lottery was based upon the concept of tontine insurance.  Essentially the law of averages.  Pretty basic math with a twist.  Whereas, the insurance companies actually want you to stop paying after a couple of years (because they keep your $$$ and don't pay you anything).  This concept makes sure someone gets something (Hint:  It's PU---)

I AM NOT NOW OR IN THE FUTURE ASKING TO BE A DEPOSITORY OF THE FUNDS OR A PICKER.  I simply proposed this idea because it merges my professional life and Hobby life.  I simply proposed an idea for someone else to “run with” or flush it down the toilet.  I DON’T GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS IDEA.  My personal financial situation is just fine (in fact I thank God that he has blessed me to be able to earn a nice living doing something that really does not benefit society – I think).  Don’t PM me asking me questions about how much I would charge for this.  Because I am not proposing anything but an idea for others.

I've had enough of TER's version of "sugarland". Let's keep that in the thread below.

Nice to see nothing changes here.
Did I grow thicker skin, or does it seem much nicer here?

And since z keeps crying to TER with my replies to him in his pathetic thread....I figured TER won't delete these posts since they obviously felt strongly about their mole zangari.

Is asinine. I would be reporting, ignoring, stamping my feet at a great many posts if I did that.

I may not be able to control everything that is posted (to me, about me, to other people, etc) on forums like these, but I can control my own reactions.

I'm not sure what was going on with Z's thread, but it spiraled out of control in a confusing way. We went from blood, to accusations of paedophilia, to having sexual relations with the corpse of one's own mother.

Bedlam!

have grad degrees in that area

"Tontine" is an arcane term used couple of centuries ago and was essentially an annuity scheme in which all participants shared certain benefits and on the death of any participant his benefits are redistributed among the remaining participants.

Now, onto your scheme of 10 or more hobbyists pulling funds together.  Its called CONSPIRACY

Congrats you just left MISDEMEANOR state and crossed the border into FELONY.  To make it even more interesting, have people cross state lines and use wire transfers.

in case you didn't notice.

And you don't have a degree in SHIT.  You just googled tontine insurance.  Glad to see you can do at least that!

Tontine is approximately 100 years old.  That's how I know you are full of shit.  Stop trying to act like you have knowledge about this because you dont.

Change the job and get a pay raise or go back to school and get  better paying job. Open up your own business. What I do is take out x amount of dollars every week. I also hobby every y days. It keeps me out of trouble and so far this year I am staying on budget and seem to be more satisfied.

Sometimes my schedule does not allow me to hobby every week. So I end up booking a multiple hour appointment where I can bring my stuff to chain the lady to the bed, etc.

The Korean guys do that every month with $500. They use the money (about $3000 a month) to help or start up a business. I have never heard about them doing it for hobby reasons.

If you are using insurance companies as a proxy, did you simply forget how much money insurance companies have lost in the last eight years on mortgage-backed securities and CDOs and other structured products?  If you are using insurance companies as a proxy, then you are a moron.  The only thing that saves an insurance company from completely going under is that they are regulated.  There is no regulation here.  Bad proxy.  Bad analysis.  Incorrect conclusion.

This is no different than a fucking lottery, you dipshit.  It has nothing to do with an insurance company, which is based on calculating risk.  Insurance companies are working on a totally different principle--that the likelihood they have to pay out on everything is remote, so they can charge everyone a small amount to be covered for a large amount in case a tragedy occurs.  They invest the money they receive in the markets to obtain a rate of return that their actuaries calculate they will need to pay out all the claims for as long as they are insured.

You are completely insane.  Based on this insurance argument, are you then asking the hobbyists to instead play the lottery?

You must be kidding if you say you are working in finance.

That she knows what she is talking about.

If you worked in NYC in finance (I know you claim to be a BSD in Ohio's finance arena), you might realize there are more than a few Russian women in finance who can do complex math while giving blowjobs and tickling your sac with their fingers.

Lets tackle the issue of legality.  Yes, we are involved in an illegal activity.  We all know that.  The smarter approach is ALWAYS to minimize risk.  The cheaper approaches generally also carry greater risk.

The problem with this cockamamie scheme of yours is that it gets a group of people involved in an activity that should only be conducted as a discrete encounter between two consenting adults and NOT between a bunch of cheap guys trying to get laid for $20 or $30...

We are here for entertainment...well, at least I am. The ramblings of the misguided mongers trying to reinvent the P4P wheel are no more annoying than the rantings of those telling us to ignore them...sometimes less so.

They've been striving on investment profits to offset underwriting losses and as soon as double digit returns disappeared they quickly started going under.

Thanks to state regulation and take overs by alien insurers, most stayed afloat ..   the industry is just getting into hard market and it will be few years before it sees real improvement.

What moron was trying to reference is law of large numbers utilized via mutual.  But even mutual would be bad example for this hobby.

If he really represents average finance professional this country is in deeper shit than we all thought it is

I can see his next bright idea .. selling cocaine to finance large group of hobbyists across state lines.
