I would like to propose a "Why We Do This" national board seperate from the General Discussion Board. I think a lot of us - clients and providers - have learned a lot and thought a lot about what we do and don't get out of this hobby that informs our life and relationships beyond the hobby. These threads tend to get burried in the many themes on the general discussionb board. I think there is a very useful (at least to me) discussion here. I, for one, would like to know more about what life lessons providers get that keeps them in the biz or gets them out... and why this thing we do can sometimes be so HEALTHY for both of us... for all of us. What do you think?
but I suspect you're going to run into two walls. First, most hobbyists are going to say they do it to get their rocks off and most providers are going to say they do it for the money. Personally, I think those are superficial answers, but most folks just aren't that introspective ... which leads into the second wall: people aren't that introspective -- no one likes to confront themselves with reality, especially if the reality has to do with intimacy, thrill seeking, issues of impulse control, neediness, love of beauty, escapism, sexual problems, and so forth. And again, personally, I don't think experiences with providers are significantly different from differences with civvies -- it's just that -- as the old song says, the emPHAsis is on a different sylLAble.
