Thank you, Tammy. I needed that.

and American ideals and principles also needs to be confronted, refuted, and checked.

This is not to say that America is perfect, or has not lived up to those ideals in the past or present. However, for some reason, it has become fashionable to declare that America is the root of all evil, that we are thus rightfully getting what's ours in each terrorist attack on our shores, and that the world would be a better place if America had never existed. I categorically reject all of these premises as untrue.

Here are some links I got off of denbeste.nu that refute them more eloquently and logically than I can:
1. http://denbeste.nu/external/idealogical_war.pdf
2. http://denbeste.nu/external/Harris02.html

The answer to extremist views of any sort is not extremism in the opposite direction.  I briefly scanned the links you provided.  If you agree with the points, in their totality, that does not mean the basis for them need be dismissed.

It should prompt one important question: "Why?"
"Why does this sentiment exist?"
Are you able to set aside your raw emotional outrage long enough to nonprejudicially consider that question?

If you're a fox, the chicken coop is wonderfully designed. You might not share that sentiment if you're a chicken.

Personally, I believe the U.S. has one of the best chicken coops around...but that won't make my heart swell when I hear songs by country-and-western singers bellowing out patriotic refains about this wonderful chicken coop of ours.

If anyone thinks America is the "land of the free" these days, drive down Main Street with, instead of an American flag, maybe an Iranian flag flying from your car...or French...or German...or even Canadian.

Yes, this is an amazing country with an amazing amount of freedoms, and it is representative of much of what is good in the world.  I truly feel fortunate to have lived my forty years here.  However, there are many people out there right now that are not representing good, who have been wearing anger and intolerance and bigotry and "payback" on their sleeves since the WTC bombing, and who use the flag and patriotism as the all-encompassing answer to some pretty complex situations that often do not put this country in as good of a light as many of its citizens like to see it in.

Diversity is strength, and diversity inevitably means conflicting viewpoints. If people are intolerant of that, then they counter the principles we tell the rest of the world that America stands for, no matter how many flags wave around them.

Fear is the only enemy.

to learn to not ruled by their fears, and I can tell you that this entire country is being ruled by fear right now.  The American people are a courageous people, they just need to find their courage.  It's critically important that they do this before they give away any more of their freedoms because of fear.

People who think like us seem to be in the minority, at least in the community i live and work.   Its great to see im not the last one.

of this quote when I saw Don King co-hosting the Jimmy Kimmel Show. During the entire week, King held an American flag in each hand and waved them constantly.

I love America but I don't like super-patriots or those who wrap themselves in the flag.

anyone seen GANGS OF NEW YORK?

i had more than a few Irish-American friends who walked out of that theater not exactly feeling proud of their heritage. go figure!

It's so sad how we hand over our freedoms. Why do we put so much blind faith in the hands of our government? Do you really feel that the US government is a; government of the people, for the people, and by the people.
I feel it is a government for big business, the christian right ect...
This Patriot act is just a tool so big brother can spy on US. It is we the people that they fear the most. We are the ones they fear, because we will be the ones that lynch them when their constant misdeeds become public. By being able to wiretap our phones, read our computer posts, know were we like to surf, ect..they will know in advance WHO to come squash before we, the AMERICAN PUBLIC attempt to take back our country.
Stop spending our tax dollars frivously overseas. Stop the constant immigration from Mexico. In California, stop overturning the the publics wishes. Prop 227 was overturned despite over 60% of the people who VOTED in favor of it. The explanation was; the people didn't know what they were voting for. BS, we knew what we were voting for. It seems that our elected officials, and the people they appoint to high ranking court positions, are choosing to ignore our wishes.
