What types of pop ups are you receiving?
If you have disabled the messenger service you will not be getting network messenger pop ups, so I am presuming you mean popups that appear when you visit various websites.

I use popup manager, a free download from www.endpopups.com

We have disabled Messenger, but it still transmits.  How do you disable this so you can eliminate those pesky pop-ups from Microsoft?  This is the last stupid question for awhile...promise!  Thanks!

try Enigma Software's "Pop Up Stopper".  (www.enigma.com).  Combined with their SpyHunter program, it'll help keep even more nasty stuff off your computer.

Make sure you are disabling the correct service.  Don't confuse the Microsoft Messanger Service with MSN Messanger.  They are very different creatures.

dowload it right from Google.com. It's maintenance free and hides easily on the toolbar of your browser. I've tried a few other free blockers over the last year+ and Google is the best/easiest of them all.

However, this covers yer butt when the source of the pop ups is those web sites that like to throw pop ups ad you.  But many times your source of the pop ups is actually spyware....cookies or even registry entries that some web sites plant on your PC. If this is the case you need to get these off your PC with one of those sypware washers.

BUT.......big butt here (  |  ;)  ......lol......Some of these are actually made by the spyware culprits themselves and they will actually plant MORE spyware on your PC rather than eliminate any.  Search the internet technology review sites to find a reputable one.

Any suggestions as to a spyware program that doesn't?
Gosh...that IS a little eye-opener!  Thanks!

are both free programs that got good reviews.  Check out www.download.com and do a search on both of them.  Also, look at the user reviews section where users post feedback on the programs. This is the best way to sort through the rubbish.

Both Adaware and Spybot got very high feedback. Adaware was actually one of the highest rated, but Spybot finds a bunch of things that Adaware did not.

I'm going to use them both until I get rid of the crap on my system!
