Strother Martin played the warden in CHL. After the warden wacks Luke with his black jack, he says" what we have here, is failure to communicate". The 'a' was never spoken. MfSD.

He may have wacked Luke earier in the movie, but in the scene where the warden speaks that line, Luke is being brought back from an escape attempt, and paraded in front of the other prisoners who are on a work detail. Luke smarts off, gets wacked and falls down, then the famous line is spoken.

I saw this movie, again about a year ago.

I recall that the scene everyone describes DID happen, however the famous line it was quoted earlier in the film AS WELL,  when a pair of OTHER prisoners attempt to espape and are causght and returned. I would almost be willing to find a copy of it and watch it again. However, slightly off topic, but relevant I think is the following.

I was at a major Electronics Superstore in my area today, just browsing. I wandered over to the movie section. I noticed that there were no VHS tapes. I asked a sales person about this and was told that they no longer sold vhs movies, only DVD. Is this the trend in your area?

Call me old fashioned but I feel that I shouldn't have to buy a DVD player untill DVD RECORDERS become affordable. However, if the local video rental store begins carrying nothing but DVD's I won't have any choice. Sometimes I really hate progress.
