Simply because someone is "hooked up on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Ipod, Iphone, Laptop, Google, etc." does not make one a geek. They are simply users of certain hardware/software applications.
Certainly they are "connected " ( no, not as in connected to a certain family organization ) but not a "geek" by intellectual standards.
20 years ago was stil the time of "nerds"; those who exclusively pursued scientific and intellectual issues.
