Yeah, for Oprah!

Good for Oprah!!!!

I'm sure many of you watched the recent taping of The Oprah Winfrey show where her guest was Tommy Hilfiger. On the show, she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true.

Statements like"... if I'd known African*Americans, Hispanics, Jews and Asians would buy my clothes, I would not have made them so nice.. I wish these people would *NOT* buy my clothes, as they are made for upper class white people."

His answer to Oprah was a simple "YES". Where after she immediately asked him to leave her show.

I am interested to know what you all think?

This is a vicious rumour that has been refuted many times.  Check on Ophrah's own web site.  Hilfiger amongst many others included Ralph Lauren has been tainted by these same lies.

But I must say it has been funny to watch the way brands have gone-  like Fila that used to be a little old ladies who lunch tennis shoe getting street cred or K-swiss becomnig trendy-

I didn't see it, but heard about it. Although I personally don't agree with him (and do agree with Oprah). It is HIS business and he can market it to whoever he wants. I don't understand why he wouldn't want the increased market share though???

...he's decided to focus his target market on neo-Nazi movements? "Do you like my new brown shirt, 'Dolph? It's a Hilfiger!" :)

I am NOT a fan of Tommy's clothes or racists, but after seeing this post, I went to look up any story about the Oprah appearance, and this is what I found at 2 different sites
http://www.snopes2.com/racial/business/hilfiger.asp
and
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/weekly/aa121698.htm

Now, if there's dirt on his spoiled, wretched daughter, let's hear it!

I have to say that I reallly didn't think that TER users, who tend to be very internet savvy and not a group of people that I would generally be stupid enough to believe everything they hear, would believe such an old and boring lie.

A simple search on google of Tommy Hilfiger and Oprah shows that not only is that rumor false, but Tommy has never been on the Oprah show!

But I guess you got to link to your site, which was really the obvious point of your post...

it's been around for quite a while actually, probably since '99.  Do a search on google for "tommy hilfiger" and "oprah" and you'll see.  Oprah herself said she never met him, let alone had him on her show.

and said he was donating all the profits he made from the "brothers" to the church of Satan.  Seems he is a descendant of the Proctor and Gamble owners.

I never understood why having someone name on  clothes make better somehow.

First, I think that Tommy must be missing out on some hot women and second, that Oprah should have had another standby guest waiting in the green room.

Please read the link in the SUPERDAVE post above for a
full explanation.

This says it all so there's no need to state other reasons
of why this is totally unbeleivable.

My question to Mara is where did you get this info?
You have quotes so what is the source?

Yeah right.  Your original post was not presented as such.

You made it seem that you saw the show by saying something
to the effect "I'm sure you guys have seen the recent taping
of the show".

As my father used to say... don't bullsh*t a bullsh*tter!
