Have they cut back their spending more than clients from other races or are they spending more or the same amounts ?

Do you assume because of their color they make less money? Forget who's running this country because the white guys have f*^ked it up. Come on please.

I've seen silly posts but this is laughable.  If you look at stats, the black middle class is made up of mostly the military, federal, state and local governments. Lower paying on the professional scale but more than many traditional "working" class jobs.  With that said, the recession has hit the African American community but not the group that have the disposile income to hobby in the first place.

I noticed a provider website that stated she will not see black men. Now I noticed that statement has been removed from he site. Perhaps she is finding out the market of hobbyists has more black men than she realized.

I think you are from the DC area where many black men work for those beltway bandit companies loaded with cash. I would think in your area they have not cut back.

Are you seeing less or more black men ? What about there spending habits ?

Let her respond to the question. If she does not want to respond she does not have to respond.

Amazing you ask a simple economic statistical question and people get all bent out shape.

The problem is that race is a divisive issue and to seperate blacks and whites for such a trivial topic as the hobby.

What kind of question is that?

Men are cutting back on the hobby...PERIOD.  I really don't think race has a whole lot to do with it.

Men are men, no matter what color they are.  With the bad economy, some have less disposable income than they used to.  They still hobby but are more prudent in their "shopping" either waiting longer in between visits or saving up for the best of the best!!

Why wouldn't this apply to EVERY race??  I'd think whitey would stop spending money on luxury items before an AA man would.

I mean seriously, WTF is the point of your post??  Are you implying that all black men are broke and hobbying via a welfare check or something?  This is the lamest post ever IMO.

Are your thoughts (about spending on luxury items) reality or is it a guess ? I asked the question because I want to know instead of guessing.

So what are you seeing the Vegas area ?

This has to be one of the most inane questions I have ever seen asked on this board. And that's a lofty bar to rise to.

Good grief.

He wrote that the provider must have realized there were more black hobbiests than she first imagined.  That is not at all what I wrote.

I can understand why you don't want to answer it. It is one of those Vietnam rice patty questions where the answer could cause a land mine to go off.

It goes to show you that people can't post the truth because of the fear of repercussions of posting the truth.

I guess I must be naive in 2009 that such a question would generate such consternation.

I must admit I got some big laughs at the responses.

In why I asked about AA men. Several reasons. One they only represent a small part of the hobby population. With this small part of the population I am not sure if they are better off or worse than the hobby population as a whole. Maybe they could more successful and higher up in the corporate ranks or have more successful investments/business thus more hobby money to spend. You never know.

I know of at least one provider that had a faq on her website that she would not see AA men. Now that statement is removed off her site. Maybe she has found out more are successful.

I also know there clients who won't see a provider if she has seen AA men. So I can see why many providers would not want to answer the question. Sad to see this type of attitude in 2009.

Its is a proven fact that on average, black people do make less than white people.  There is no opinion about it, look it up.  Why is everyone getting so bent out of shape?  Was anything racist said?  Not that I have read.  The way I see it all the OP was, was a question?

You are right there. It sure is sad to see this type of attitude in 2009.

But, you might want to check your own perspective, preconceived ideas, and misperceptions for the source of the problem.

I think people responded because it assumed that black men that hobby are different from white men that hobby.  To me what divides America is class not race.  If you loss your job, you probably stopped hobbying - black or white

Also, your question is too open-ended and cannot be answered indiviually.  Unless the ladies got together and ask "are you seeing less black men" , it can't be answered on this board.

Secondly, you question about providers not seeing black men has nothing to do with the economy.  In that case the question would be "with the economy getting worse, do you now see black men. That can answered indiviually.

Just a thought

it has racial, sociological, political, and psychological implications.

You are getting the responses you are getting because people are immediately wondering what in your psyche is pushing this. That is all.

Now I don't care. But if you get this sort of response, you may want to:

1) consider if it is really the response you want
2) investigate why you thought this would be a well received question
3) consider some other course of action.

Just a suggestion.

The reason people got bent out of shape is that it was a stupid question and it's pretty obvious that he asked about a particular race just to stir up shit and then sit back and enjoy.

He got his wish.

truth. Folks are going to think that it has to do with your being an in or out of closet racist.

You may or may not be. Not my business.

Unless you want to fund a statistically sound economic study though, it looks to me like you're just stirring shit. Could be wrong tho.

Oh BTW the places where they grow rice in Vietnam: rice paddy not patty. Plural is paddies.

Are you surprised that your post does not give rise to questions about your attitudes in 2009? Are you aware of how you think?

Just questions. Don't need answers....

Chime-ing in...ding!

When money was flowing much better I only attracted two black men friends. ***Not by choice! - I'm Not very ethnic, I'm built like barbie(tits & legs) and my skin is a darker red cinnamon brown. I've been called Late' black girl, Oreo, When-I-grow-up-I'll-be-black and The jokes go on and on and on.

My point being: My regular and new friends are usually Non-black.  I have lost a lot Non-black friends since the almost depression started. The 2 black men that visit with me are still visiting me just not as frequent.

We can still do well and be happy in the Hobby as long as we stay positive with each other.

Money will flow again Sooner than later.
