Could it be here?
The question now is, will the politicians declare victory and go away, or start a new beach head.
Could it be here?
But, just like drugs. If there's a market, one way or the other it'll find it's way to you.
Still fucks me up why they just don't legalize certain things and tax the shit out of them and regulate.
They're never going away. Certain people just have to dig deeper to find what it is they get off on.
I don't know. Makes sense to me, but I don't have thousands of constituents breathing down my neck either.
placing explicit hobby related content / communication / advertising on a venue specifically for the general public is going to be viewed as a threat to decency and order by many. And is going to attract unwarranted attention.
It is ultimately a matter of *discretion*, something we should all highly value.
I think that ultimately we are headed for a situation where specific hobby related content is going to have to come "inside" - be restricted to sites that require some sort of membership, and possibly payment. Sites which have user agreements and disclaimers.
I suspect that for Eros, Cityvibe and Backpage to survive public scrutiny and concerns about trafficking and etc, they are going to have to substantially change the way they do business.
Could it be here?
Could it be here?
They would be the next logical target. Since BP is owned by the publishers of the Village Voice, which has always run ads by escorts, I would suspect that they will not roll over as easily. In the meantime, I suspect that LE will now make BP their happy hunting ground for stings and busts. Just as an exercise, just did a review check of the first five ads in BP's NYC page... 0 for 5, as expected. Same as CL, right down to the CAPS, *FuNkY * $UbJ3ct * LIn3$, etc. Oh wait, some new ads...here's one... $/hr, 420 friendly, CR3@M P!3 included ( exactly as posted on the subject line). Is it any wonder why LE operates there?
They have a similar style of interface in that they are classified ads.
But the companies are radically different, and public awareness & usage of each are radically different.
Just watch... LE will NOT be able to, nor will they want to take on the newspaper industry on this.
Dig deeper & think!
HalfHour
Is CL the cause or the people's stupidity in putting themselves in danger. Me thinks, it is the latter. It can happen any board or advertising venue. Your are responsible for your risky behavior. Politicians making you believe risky behavior can be controlled by CL no advertising is playing the public for stupid. If that is the case, we won't have a drug problem, would we? It is illegal and not advertised, so why the drug problem?
Anyone who thinks that CL is going to give up $ 36 million revenue over the long term? Think again.
If you do, I have some prime beach front property and a couple very long bridges for sale, interested?
There is a method to the madness we are witnessing right now. This probably means all out war.
It was quite wise and I am sure done with legal counsels directives of labeling the aforementioned sections of CL as censored. They could have said censored by the US. Government, but that would look childish.
I am sure that the legal minds representing CL are in only the planning stages of what will be to come. You will suddenly see that the adult provider section of CL appears live and well one day and the fight will be ON for the 1st amendment rights that stands behind each and every other site that is not singled out like CL is and that includes BP.
Who are the real losers when this war takes on it's ugly face? We the tax payers as all manner of Attorney's General fall in line lock step unless their Governors rein them in due to budget constraints.
My state's AG is leading the charge against CL. That is easier than taking on government corruption by powerful lawmakers or finding potential terrorists that are embedded in the state. The second in command of the state house looks corrupt to the core. The guy is featherbedding state jobs with family and friends and taking backhanded donations. But who is going after him? NOT THE STATE'S AG!!!! The FEDs are on to his ass and should be taking him down soon, fortunately for taxpayers of the state. The FEDs appear to be building their case without a lick of help from the state's AG.
Craig is not backing down. The attention-pandering politicians of both parties (e.g., Democrat Sheriff of Cook County (Chicago) Tom Dart) have yet to win a battle in court, as far as I know.
This is a pre-ligitation tactic. Using "censored" must mean something more than deleted.
Here's the link to Craig's personal site. Perhaps something will be published there.
Craig is hearing Tom Petty singing in is head right now. " No I won't back down. I'm gonna stand my ground."
BP will not be touched by LE.
While ads may become more discrete in language ala the change from the "erotic" section style of CL to the "adult" section style of CL. The ads will continue to be published, and the MEDIA will NOT back the Politician or LE PR campaigns against each other the way they stood by while poor little CL, the NON-MEDIA company who diverted up their revenue streams all over the country, got picked on by patheitically opportunistic mediawhoring AGs.
