So I went in for my check up. 'Check Up' is what I called it while standing in a waiting room full people at the outpatient clinic. Here's how it went:NURSE-  "What do you need to be checked for?" ME-  "I just need to be very thoroughly checked out"  (while grinning)NURSE- "Oh....maybe you would like to discuss this privately with a doctor" ME- "yes, I need consultation"Now I'm in the Consultation Room and a female doctor comes in and says, "what seems to be the problem?"  I'm thinkin that I'm gonna really get lectured since it's a woman- guys are normally more understanding bout this stuff.ME- "I've been sexually active for about the past year and half and have received and given a lot of unprotected oral"FEM DOC- "There are OVER 30 different types of STD's that can be transmitted orally, not including several forms of hepatitis." "Have you experienced any sores on you genitals, discharge or discomfort while urinating?"ME- "No, nothing"FEM DOC- "Nothing?" "Well, you're really smart for getting a check up" (she said this several times during the course of examing me)SMART???  I was expecting to get reamed by her! Maybe she liked the fact that I was giving oral? Well, I don't know about 'smart', considering all the stuff I've been up to.  I left the clinic figuring that I probably had something since this stuff can be transmitted orally (according to her) and that I was tested for so many different things. But NO, NOTHING, NADA!!! My test results came back clean. Don't know if I'm lucky or whether to encourage my fellow brethren to BBBJ AWAY. Is anyone concerned bout all the sh*t you can get?

...get yourself a dictionary and look up the term "asymptomatic."A number of STDs do not show up on tests (or show up irregularly).Dr. SK

Go to the county clinic or family planning.  No insurance records to haunt you, you probably won't see anyone you know and you'll pay next to nothing for the tests.

Ahhh..........gee thanks 2big, I was just begining to feel like I dodged a bullet here. So....what are the tests good for then? From what you're sayin, my $800 woulda been better spent on more BBBJ's!

A new monk arrives at the monastery.  He is assigned to help the other monks in copying the old texts by hand. He notices, however, that they are copying copies, not the original books. So, the new monk goes to the head monk to ask him about this. He points out that if there were an error in the first copy, that error would be continued in all of the other copies. The head monk says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son." So, he goes down into the cellar with one of the copies to check it against the original.Hours later, nobody has seen him.So, one of the monks goes downstairs to look for him. He hears a sobbing coming from the back of the cellar, and finds the old monk leaning over one of the original books crying. He asks the old monk what is wrong, and in a choked voice came the reply."The word is 'celebrate'."--modified by Mathesar at Thu, May 24, 2001, 16:00:28--modified by Mathesar at Thu, May 24, 2001, 16:02:45

Slick,There are several folks that are potentially raining on the parade for no real reason.  What test did you have done?  That will tell a lot if it party time or not.  I don't mean to pry but if you want another view of your results I could possibly help.True someone did mention asymptomatic but that may be significant if they did a physical screen for some STD and not a sero test or some other physiochemical testing. You can private mail if you want.PM=oknbvdw--JP--modified by JP at Mon, May 28, 2001, 14:38:34

JP, Thanks for offering your insight. The physician mentioned that I would be tested for HIV, over 30 different types of STD's and Hepatitis. However, only the following tests were itemized on my lab bill:HIV-1 AB ElisaHerpes I IGGHerpes II AB IGGGC By amplified DNA ProbeChlamydia by amplified DNARPR (Syphilis Serology)Hepatitis C Virus AntibodyHepatitis B Surface AntigenHep B Surf AB (Quant)I was told over the phone that my lab results were completely normal. So, I'm assuming that the when I go to Doc's office to pick up my copy of the results that there will also be mention of all the other good old fashion STD's like gonorrhea and so forth. Thanks again for taking a look at this.

Slick,I need to say all the standard disclaimers:I am not a physician licensed to practice in the State of California.  Anything I state should not be interpreted or inferred to be of a valid medical opinion.  Anything of a medical or health care nature most be considered of entertainment value only. Etc...All of that said.  Dude you look set to rock from here.  Given the incidence rates for STD you have the statistically significant ones covered. The STD's that are of any concern you have tested and the others would need to be showing some symptoms such as penile discharge so in general you are good to go.  Of course that is a covered good to go however there are still a variety of STD’s that are out there that you might have but if you are betting man or least living life one – then you are okay.--JP
