Was wondering if anyone out there played? Can you pick this game up as an adult? Just curious..

That's with an "e" (lacrosse).  There are lots of club teams playing at various levels and age groups.  Most players have college experience, but a good athlete could learn the game and get some playing time with a lower level team.
